I bought my HPI Baja 5b SS in 2010 and I had to install a "Killer Bee" Fail safe for only 50 bucks and did not come with a radio. Retail at the time for my Kit was 500.00. Still runs like a beast. HPI did a fantastic job on that Buggy you have!!!

I’ve got this car, certainly my Fav and coolest looking body. HPI certainly does a great job packing all the extra goodies for maintenance. It’s been fun running and upgrading on this rig. DDM Fast pipe is certainly a nice exhaust for this kit.

Nice review! It doesnt matter if the choke lever is touching the throttle linkage because it will only be used during a cold start. But the under guard of this baja has diff oil all over it which is not a good sign.

Your throttle cable needs to get repositioned, it should not rub on the clutch housing like yours is, mine came the same way, I just moved it inboard so it’s not chaffing and binding. A remote kill switch is a must. The stock transmitter has a 3rd channel that I’ve hooked up the kill switch.

Thanks, some of the guys in the shop told me the same thing, I guess it’s kind of a shipping thing where some of these throttle cables are wrongly positioned.

Your linkage is set up wrong. The throttle linkage is supposed to ride above the brake linkage, not side by side. I had a similar issue until I rotated the linkage counter clockwise 90 deg.

Does it come with the spark plug???? Also can you tune the motor with out taking the body off

It comes with spark plug and yes you can tune it without removal of the body

I own one of these baja krakens ive only had it running afew times as i have this bogging issue up on acceleration. I took it out to give it a good run and started to tune it. I noticed after afew runs that oil has leaked out from somewere. It was all around the base gasket and out from the exhaust gasket. Would you say its possible for the exhaust gasket to leak and run down around the base gasket? I hope its just the exhaust leaking and not the base gasket too. Its normal for the choke lever to get in the way of the brake rod. Mines exactly the same. Have you also noticed its very hard to get fuel into the tank with the whole body on. I have taken the panel off on that side.

Ya the exaust gasket does leak, try and tighten it up, but its fine.

Yes it is normal for choke to hit throttle linkage my Baja b5 does same

I have one of these i got it when they first came out in the U.K. the car kept bogging and i couldnt figure out what was causing it for months and in the end the cause was that from factory hpi had put the fuel pipes the wrong way around!
