Man this build really brought out some emotions in me to see. My dad hauled cars for 30 years for GM. He retired in the early 2000's and he is about at the end of his time here. The worst thing you could ever call him was a truck driver. He was a car hauler. Great build.

I couldn’t do that for a living between the frigid cold weather and an icy trailer to dying in the hot sun in the summertime, plus I’m afraid of heights.

Great kit, great build. About doing models for yourself- I watch vids by you, Night Shift, Plasmo, Andy's Hobby Shop, that Euro chick with the impossible fingernails(!) and others. All work to their own level of satisfaction and detail. I really appreciate your authenticity, your clear love for the hobby and ability to let the model itself shine through your builds. When I see one of your builds I can still look at it and visualize how I'd build it instead of getting wrapped up in what someone else did to it. Thanks for that. By all means, keep doing it *your* way.

Built this kit a million years ago. Had a matching yellow Diamond Reo conventional rig. Unfortunately went in the trash with so many others, when I cleaned out Mom n Dad's attic. You got me all revved up to do another one. Possibly just saw this today, whilst at Colonial Photo n Hobby Orlando, FLA. Great job. Was intimidated about the patina, until you showed how easy it was. Hello' I had this when it first came out long ago. I do not have it anymore wished I did. Happy to see it rereleased. I have to get at least two of them to build. I think they will look great parked next to each other. I'm very pleased to see you were given one to build. You have a great gig doing this, all the kits you get is a modelers dream come true. I just was at the model round up web site and saw tons of your builds in the pitchers of kits I looked at. Well, I just had to go to your channel and look at some of your builds again LOL. I think you did an outstanding job on this kit. The only problem I have is there to many interrupting adds. I am looking forward to the next ones. Thank you very much it is great to see you at work.

Thanks man. I allow ads on the channel, and YT put 4 in this one my report says. I don't want to ask for money like other channels do with Patreon, etc so I turn on ad revenue instead and let YT pay the bills and not my cool viewers. I'll always keep the channel free to everyone! No hidden paid content!

great job chris as usual i have been watching ur channel for a couple of months. the reason i chose this build to comment on is because this is going to be the next kit i buy, have been waiting months for it to get here. i had this kit when i was a young teen in the 70's i believe the kit i had was called tournament of thrills and had the ford c 600 tractor pulling the car trailer. i just bought amt 1147 witch you have recently built. i am going to shorten the frame and make it a semi tractor. cant wait to build the coke machines, hope they look as good as yours. great content keep it coming !

Just think of all the car models that might fit on the trailer. When I build a car I like to use the WI plates when I can. Being a WI kid. I just half to. Thanks for a great build. Simple and fun. A great model for a rainy day.

Cool build,neat weathering. I'd give the mustard yellow a pass, personally,but it looks really cool. I just don't have a yellow tractor for it! I passed the modern car hauler up a couple years back when it came out,just looked to fiddly for my comfort zone at the time. Now this gem! I think I'm gonna get one of these! That's a cool option for clearing up some shelf space! Really nice, guy stay safe and healthy!

Great idea to use the transporter and a period tractor unit to display other 1/25 cars. Just a heads up. Italeri do some brilliant articulated truck tractor models, mostly of European trucks like Scania, Iveco, Volvo, DAF, Mercedes and MAN. They also do some cool LWB chassis flat bed/canvas side European truck kits. Italeri truck kits are expensive even in Europe, but they do some very nice 1/24 scale American Mack, Western Star and Peterbilts.

OT: But I saw a trailer such as this hauling brand new 1980-something Dodge Caravans in Tampa FL. Apparently the driver didn't properly calculate the height of his load against the lowness of the overpass. Did you know that Caravan rhymes with tuna can, as in...opened like a.... I'm sure the next staff meeting was awkward.

Nice build, I remember handpainting one of these when I was a kid - took about 14 hours! I’ve started one about ten years ago that I lengthened to suit the bigger, longer cars as was done to most of these trailers in the late 1950s. The ramp angles are really severe in this kit so in reality only a small 4x4 would be able to climb the lower decks.

This car hauler has a 50s air about it - just too bad 50s style tractors aren't available. For the daring, perhaps a resin cab-over from the early 50s could be kit-bashed with two-axle, single drive axle unit - Lindberg Dodge L700; AMT Ford C600; or White single drive. Dodge and Ford have Gasoline power, while White has Diesel. With single headlights, the C600 can even portray a late 50s tractor. Chris' mention of "rich guy" and "Mopar Nationals" points in a more contemporary rendition of this car transport - Lindberg L700 with alloy-style road wheels, hauling a collection of those plentiful and varied 60s "Mopar Muscle" kits off to the Nationals.... Same "rich guy" might also be on his way to one of those "deep pockets" collector car auctions with a couple or so from his own collection to sell, or with a fully-loaded "full stash" (and a lot less moolah) returning from auction - possibly even including some "resto/rusto" project cars to add to his collection. Oh yeah - the scourge of those "blankety-blank" collectors, whether 1:1 or in scale! God bless the builders and the "real world" B2BD (Built-to-be-Driven) auto aficionados! Thanks for your great review & build format Chris - your "actually" used building style is a refreshing counterpoint to the builds which grace the pages of car modeler publications and the show tables of NNL and competitive contests. You keep me thinking - and imagining - prospective projects - almost as much fun as an enjoyable build - you know, the ones devoid of succumbing to a case of "over-complicationitis!

I didn't see it hitch to the Autocar or any truck, would have been nice to see and if you had any problems placing trailer kingpin to truck fifth wheel.
@hpiguy

It's a simple pin, there is zero issue, the fifth wheels on all AMTs will work well.

Always a great tutorial. Thank you. Do you have information on the clamps you use to hold the models when you paint them?

I have clamps exactly like those that I got at a Staples office supply store. You can get them at Wally World in the office supplies section and some dollar stores.

Could one use the AMT kit of the Ford C-600? Would that cabover be correct for the time?

Another fun build! Hey Chris, what particular line of Rustoleum paints are you using? I was in my local Ace Hardware yesterday and noticed there is more than one line of Rustoleum paints.

I use a LOT of the 2X labeled ones, they dry fast. I use any of the metallics, they work great for everything. Primers are all the 2X labels.

I started building automotive models when I was a kid, around 7 years old. After a 20+ year hiatus I'm getting back into it (61 now). I started spraying my kits with Testor's spray cans and some times auto touch up cans. I eventually moved to airbrushing. I noticed with the auto touch up paints they went on a bit thicker so one had to be careful not to hide small details. That was one reason I started using an airbrush, I would decant the cans and spray with the AB. Does the Rust-Oleum go on thin or thick?
@hpiguy
@hpiguy 4 жыл бұрын
Sprayed lightly it goes on fine and I have no issues with details. If you hose the thing down I'm sure it will look bad, and it will also take a long time to dry. I knock these kits out every two days, I couldn't do that with super thick paint waiting to dry.

It seems there are sellers on Ebay and Amazon and other hobby websites using my videos and pictures for their own profit without my permission. Neither site will get involved and remove the copyrighted material. Thanks
