Relating to all studio recordings of Mariah, even those who are supposed to have been live recorded, one can only say, what a great job of american sound engineer and studio technology. And if I had not switched from outrageously expensive speakers driven by expensive amplifiers to high quality headphones on reasonable headphone amplifiers, I probably would never have noticed this either. If you listen Regine in lossless format her voice is far way better than Mariah's voice. But of course Mariah is a great composer and performer on stage and has a beautiful voice, but not an outstanding one, like Regine.

If you are a vocalist yourself or know anything about singing or the voice, you'd agree this was perfect. Is she Mariah? No never will be. No one will top Mariah. But Regine has come close in my opinion. She interpreted this song wonderfully. She doesn't have the raspy voice of Mariah. But she executed it the right way for her. You can tell she was heavily influenced by Mariah. And she did achieve a lot of the melodic and melismatic singing. Similar to Mariah

Also I just want to mention that Regine sang for 52 Sundays a year from 1998 to 2014. If she wanted to, she could have channeled Mariah even more by singing with a huskier voice... we know she can do that sound ( like when she sings As Id We Never Said Goodbye or “sometime, somewhere” where she’s almost speaking the phrase) BUT she wisely knew that trying to sing in a husky sound IS BAD BAD BAD BAD for you in the long run ( in the same way that whispering actually is more taxing to your cords than casual talking). Likewise, with the whistle. She wisely eschewed the whistle tone because over time, it affects your belting ability. For some reason, your belts become less metallic. And what great choices were they! At age 50, still no signs of slowing down or lowering the keys to her songs. She is still able to belt so well without losing her sweet soft (but not breathy) tone. Now it’s all starting to make sense to a lot of her fans who used to wonder why she wouldn’t learn to do the whistle. Also she deliberately does not learn the actual notes (eg G#6) that she belts to avoid tightening up before a high note. See how smart she is?!? And on a side note, keep an eye on Morissette: she may be enjoying the ability to belt and whistle right now but her whistling will adversely impact her belting in the long run.
