"You can hear gunfights here": people flee from Toretsk / hromadske

The White Angels police crew, which is engaged in evacuating people, enters Toretsk. The front-line city was just recently alive: there was cellular service and communications here. Now it resembles a ghost town.
"This is such a place - there are strikes here all the time. They have already shot at it well," says Anton Pron, one of the policemen, as a white armored minibus passes through one of the streets. Outside the window, burnt high-rise buildings fly by and the sounds of explosions are heard periodically. Local residents say that they can already hear gunfights.
"The situation in Toretsk is very difficult, anti-aircraft missiles are constantly arriving, artillery is working, drones are flying. The situation has worsened for two weeks," says Anton Pron.
At the end of June, the Russians broke through the Ukrainian defense near Toretsk and began to develop an offensive. Before this aggravation, according to the police, almost 11,000 people lived in the city. Now only occasionally "White Angels" meet desperate people on the streets who dare to go out. Most are hiding in basements. Those who are most afraid ask to take them out. Police officers receive three dozen applications every day. And there are volunteers who also offer evacuation.
