Ravel has such a beautiful, eerie, whimsical soundtrack quality to his work. Every component is full of blissful yet uneasy nostalgia. Something I so often strive for both in listening and playing music.

I'll never be able to thank you enough for having shared this live performance, hr-Sinfonieorchester, you're all amazingly talented and so is Daniel Smith, the Conductor. On the Maurice Ravel's birth anniversary, what could be better than the Suite No. 2 of Daphnis et Chloé? one of the most powerful and seductive pieces of music ever written ! Happy birthday, Maestro...!!!!

being transported to the sublime...ahhhh...relaxation. Daniel Smith--never seen him before, but he is wonderful to watch. Orchestra is marvelous, and the soloists--extraordinary.

Michael, the moment I listened to Suite II of Daphnis et Chloé for the first time - and I was so young... - I thought exactly as you do... and I still do. Happy birthday, Maurice Ravel ! Bravo to the Orchestra and to the Conductor !

"Ach du lieber, mein schatz"! The Bible tells us that Heaven is beyond our imagination. Well, so is the composing of such a piece of music as this!!! An "actual human being" really did compose such a gorgeous masterpiece to "titilate" our ears! The musicianship it takes to play this piece is almost as amazing! But the conductor must have sat on the short end of the schtick AND the long end of the shaft at the same time - that "schmile"!!! "Gesundheit"!

Beautiful and modern in its freshness. I love the details shining through, interior lines, those otherworld bird calls bouncing in and out. But the orchestral playing line comes and goes; the tension goes out of the sound at random places, and dynamic changes are often uncalculated. But I bet this guy will conduct Wagner really well later in his career.

How could little Ravel, such a humble soft man have written the most passionate, erotic, love music in all of classical music. The measure always was Tristan und Isolde, but actually that was sophisticated love: impersonalized love, asexual love. Ravel's love music here is passionate, sexual, the complete personification of what passionate love is supposed to be between lovers. Who would have known! Ravel, the skinny unimpressive man hit the heights of emotions and passion in this piece. Oh, Ravel, you are divine!
