So happy to see the great maestro Stanisław Skrowaczewski still conducting. This years (2013) should be his 90th birthday? Such energy, truly remarkable. My wish is that he returns to the Berliner Philharmoniker to do a Bruckner symphony.

Thank you yet again for a superb performance, both with a fantastic, powerful and talented German orchestra, with its typical strong and confident sound... oh how I love it! And also with this veteran conductor whose talents are undimmed. May I add one word of praise to your sound engineers? the quality of this and your other KZbin concerts is outstanding...... I really do think your engineers could teach a lesson or two to your friends over in Deutsche Grammophon! Many thanks..

:I remember this conductor guesting with the Halle Orchestra in Manchester, England in the mid-sixties. What a tremendous and long career. Bravo!

This is my favorite of the 4 Fidelio overtures. Once this performance gets through the slow intro, I think the tempi and dynamics here are right on. This is a terrific performance, I would have been on my feet at the end!

Ah Skrowi! Years ago here in Minnesota the Orchestra griped about you. Now they all love you. You are a truly great conductor. Too bad the corporatists on the board are killing a great orchestra you helped build. Bravo!

Objektive und gleichzeitig spannende Aufführung dieser perfekt komponierten Ouvertüre mit angemessenen Dynamik und ohne überflüssige Agogik. Die Holzbläser sind echt ausgezeichnet!

The 2nd Leonora Overture was, in my experience, much less frequently performed in live concerts but equally as fascinating as the 1st and (the most often performed) 3rd ("Fidelio"). So I appreciate and enjoyed this live recording (despite the small off-stage trumpet call glitch, as someone has pointed out). It's interesting to compare this performance with the one by the Orchestre de Paris under the baton of Herbert Blomstedt (available on KZbin)-without the off-note during the 2nd distant trumpet call. I admire both Skrowaczewski and Blomstedt as conductors.

Thank you for pointing that out and confirming what I heard (while I felt sorry for both the trumpeter and maestro Skrowaczewski). I'm glad that no one has sent you hate mails for the honest criticism. I was not as lucky when I pointed out that a New York Phil horn player failed to reach a high note near the end of Dvorak' s 9th symphony during the orchestra's historic performance in North Korea quite a while back, I received a few hate mails/replies. The problem is that a KZbin upload claimed that the video (with the horn glitch voiced over/fixed (?)) was the NY Phil's "live" performance at the historic concert.
