I have played this many times as a violinist in the orchestra, so I know this piece very well. But of course there is hardly any comparison. This is sooooo well played. Especially by Mischa, but also the delicate interaction with the orchestra is enchanting. To me this is the performance in which Tchaikovsky's elegant composition comes out the best.

Not True! Mischa Maisky is the most over-rated ever! Maisky was only 6th prize winner in weak Tchaikovsky competition! No-one liked poor awful Maisky jury and audience! Mozart wrote do not make my kids average players! Maisky=awful average player!!

@@RaineriHakkarainen It's actually completely crazy to you. Play it first, I'm sure you wouldn't even get the first note. I know exactly what I'm talking about, I'm 13 and come from the gifted class and I know exactly how difficult it is to play this piece. That is one of the most difficult pieces in the cello literature. And at this tempo, with this tone... that's just unbelievable!!! So don't tell anyone here that it's just average!

I've never heard a more captivating and nuanced performance of this glorious piece than this one. Maisky has this music running through his veins but let's not forget that wonderful Paavo Jarvi and the very deft way he handles the orchestra, following Maisky's every breath. Thank you for uploading this enduring treat!

So much not in time between the orchestra and the soloist throughout the piece! Maisky is certainly one of the best cellists of modern days but he could do a better job performing MUSIC rather then notes...
@pauldeck45005 жыл бұрын
Wonderfully played but I thought Narek Hakhnazaryan's performance was better. For example the octaves in the final coda, Hakhnazaryan played those cleaner and better in tune. The ensemble between Hakhnazaryan and the Moscow City Symphony was tighter too. Also for goodness sake, that purple shirt -- this is a cello performance, not figure skating.

Maybe the musician is a little old,I find,the force of performance is not enough although his skill is fluent. Lack of manly power. When being tough,should be tough,.when,soft,should be soft. Look at you you ma's performance in cello: different. You can get the greatest power from you you ma's performance. When his performance.
@nickyork89014 жыл бұрын
And you can't even spell Yo Yo Ma correctly, "lack of manly power", in Tchaikovsky, for crying out loud. This guy produces more power in a single note than most cellists manage in a whole concert.
