Well the new set introduced a lot of stuff with Reborn, and mage hero power very conveniently deals well with Reborn. So maybe that's why people are playing it? Who knows. I would think Reborn Minions would do quite well in arena mode.

honestly, if you think about it for a sec the lower winrate makes a lot of sense, considering with a really high playrate there are bound to be a lot of mirrors, which pulls the winrate down closer to 50%...

my uneducated opinion why mage is good in arena, and i dont think mage was ever bad in arena, is because most of mage class cards can be used both defensively and offensively and they do not have significant conditions attached to them if i remember correctly other classes that were good in arena in various expansions, were good because of singular cards, or more recently because of card bucket changes, and if i remember correctly mage had at some points singular cards that you had to avoid to balance the class, as opposed to others having singular cards that you needed in the draft i dont know how this could be balanced, the only thing i can think of is that heroes have too small of a health pool, if there was a bigger total health, early game openers would be less important, that means lower reliance on small minions, and the hero power being less effective, since it does not have as many obvious targets suddenly, also having a higher health total would nerf the direct damage spells, and again, multiple mage spells deal with small minions, so the game not relying on small minions as much would lead to mage having a more mediocre card pool, with that said i am not sure how it would influence the overall class balance so it might not change much, or it might be catastrophic, so i dont know how horrible idea it is (maybe it relies on how much hp do you add) i dont know if i expressed it somewhere, but i already thought in the past that over the expansions, the cards (abilities) in hearthstone get a "level up" over the time in various expansions, but your hero max hp does not... i think the new expansions sort of work around this by having more healing and armour, but those are attached to specific cards, so they are not always present in the game, and they are not always an option (lets assume i am right, although it is mostly based on assumption, you need specific cards to boost your hp to the up to date expansion, you need to use mana for those cards so that is an awkward situation in curvestone, and you need to reserve a spot for the card in the deck, both of these conditions are reasons for people to prefer faster, more consistent games, rather than using cards that you may or may not draw and may or may not need, because you might be already ahead in the match and you want to end it, not extend your hp, this leads to most of the games being a lot more one-sided and oppressive, although nerfing health total would nerf all the aggro and especially budged aggro decks, now that's oppressive)

Reborn is absolutely obnoxious. You know how frustrating is to deal with minions that you have to kill multiple times. They were always top tier picks for both arena and constructed, but this time instead of deathrattles they made it into a whole new keyword. There are so many of those stupid cards that your board clears very rarely actually clear. Most of the time they barely make it better than current situation.

Well, the thing is, statistics never tell the whole story. Weaker players playing Mage are going to dramatically bring the win rate down. But skilled players will do way better because Mage takes more skill to play than the other classes. If I had to guess why weaker players are playing Mage, it would be because of Mage's high roll potential. In arena, Reno is practically an auto win whenever you play him to clear the board. He's just SOOOO good in arena.

It's pretty easy, mage got nerfed big time, so all the mage players are migrating to arena en masse... It's also why the mage winrate is dropping so much more than it should, mage got nerfed but their decks are still solid.

You are wrong as is Kripp altough only partially. There was never in history of HS situation where players from standard migrated to arena due to class nerf. Never. Mage has been always popular class no matter what but beside that there are 3 main reasons why mage is so popular right now. First - mage has most fun options across all classes starting with elementals synergy through BSM archetype, rng spells, value generation on secret synergy ending. Second - it has highest potential for rng builds and nowadays arena players in majority unfortunately give a fuck about viability of the deck. They just want to highroll and win game easily. Third - weakness of other classes besides hunter and rogue for good players. Maybe priest and pally are close to mage in terms of winrate but viability of their possible drafts is way worse than mage. Both pally and priest are very high rng classes right now, warlock is being forced to play zoo in 80% of the drafts, shaman and warrior are very weak. Druid is an option but it's risky buisness. For players that want solid, no rng decks, no aggro, just be happy with outplaying opponent mage is close to only pick besides top 2 classes. So all in all Kripp is right pointing out mage versatility i just don't agree with his interpretation. I feel he doesn't understand what's going on right now at arena.

So your theory is wrong. Rogue and hunter are no 1 and no 2 due to massive avg dp advantage. Hunters dp is on avg around 2.5 dp higher than next class and rogue altough way closer in terms of dp... is rogue. Historically rogue always had disadvantage in dp due to massive advantage in hero power. It worked that way for sth like 2 years. Recently Blizzard is going away from that tradition and doesn't give rogue" punishment" for it's hero power. Yes, last time when rogue was sth like 56% winrate they nerfed it but not to the point of receiving penalty. Right now rogue also doesn't have one and has 2-nd highest dp avg altough very miniscurely better than mage, pally, warlock and priest. Rogue is 1 because of hero power advantage over hunter. Hunter is 2-nd because of insanely high avg dp. Simple.
