So much amazing and pioneering engineering happening on HS2. Let's hope they do actually complete it to it's original plans.

It would seem a shame to learn all the lessons from phase one and not be able to apply them to the other phases. There will be a lot of talent and expertise lost if we don't build phase 2

An excellent video. The level of engineering required to build the railway is impressive. Details such as the reinforced haul road are very interesting. I have seen the drone shots of the roads, but did not appreciate the effort required to make them strong enough, but also removable without contamination.

Great to see, hopefully we get some good news on phase 2 before phase 1 is completed so even though there would be a massive delay, all the expertise gained in phase 1 and it's work force can at least be utilised for future phases

Considering we live in a democracy it amazes me how one man can decide that we don’t need phase 2🤨

I'n pretty late to this one but thanks for the vid. You're right that the Thame Valley Viaduct often does get overlooked so I'm glad you've covered it. Keep it up👍

I find the engineering works on HS2 fascinating; thanks for sharing. Some of the parts for HS2 are coming from the isle of Grain by train aren’t they? Is it the same firm? (Looking at the length of these pieces, I can understand why these aren’t going by train!!)

PACADAR are also producing tunnel ring segments which are being delivered by rail.

I find British architectural design fascinating. Therefore, I would like to see Britain, Japan, and India working together to aim for greater heights in railway construction. By the way, if we were to produce whiskey and brandy in Scotland or England in anticipation of the income of Indians in 10 years, I think we could sell it at a high price.

Such a shame that HS2 is only going as far as Birmingham Curzon Street. With the Northern section of HS2 now cancelled. It seems that the North of England has been missed out as HS2 was going to provide better rail services from London Euston to Manchester, Leeds, Liverpool, Newcastle and the rest of the North of England.
@DaveFiggley Жыл бұрын
Yes, very disappointing. One can only hope that the CPO'd land is retained in case circumstances change and a future government decides to deliver more of HS2.. OOC/Euston to Curzon Street is nothing more than a vanity project - it does very little to increase capacity north of Birmingham. Er, which was the whole point of HS2, I thought. I don't know how this project has swallowed so much money. The Channel Tunnel got built but, of course, that was primarily with private money.

It's incredibly disappointing, lets hope if Labour get into power they over turn the decision

Is that really the first prefab concrete beam bridge in the UK?? That seems baffling, where I live everything is built that way. I shudder to think of the maintenance costs of all of Network Rail's bridges and structures if that is indeed the case
@Rail_Focus Жыл бұрын
Did you watch the whole video? It's not about the beam, but the viaduct as a whole.
@andrewreynolds4949 Жыл бұрын
@@Rail_Focus Did I misunderstand something then? "It is thought that this is the first time in the UK that a viaduct will be constructed almost entirely out of prefabricated sections", referring to the prefab concrete beams?
@Rail_Focus Жыл бұрын
Beams, piers, pile cap rebar cage, slab track and parts of the deck all pre-assembled off site, which it is thought hasn't been done on the UK before
@andrewreynolds4949 Жыл бұрын
@@Rail_Focus Ok. That's how it's normally done around where I live

Should not have cancelled this great project but maybe just put it over extra time,also get a good project engineer in that can cost it properly. This country needs big infrastructure its good for all.

Good to see the money from the bond market going into the real economy for a long term investment.
@duncanwilson5170 Жыл бұрын
Why didn't they use the same technique as Colne Valley?
@Rail_Focus Жыл бұрын
Different structures require different methods. The Colne viaduct spans are much longer and it's much higher. The piers for Colne weigh around 350 tonnes. But the deck sections are being constructed off site.

Really silly to say this will reduce traffic movements and ignore the glaring disruption such a long oversize load will create, including physically adapting roads to it will fit through....
@Rail_Focus Жыл бұрын
1 vehicle is technically correct. It's only 1 movement per day so not really that disruptive.

Nice to know that the levelling up cash has gone to the south. 32 miles of tunnels and vanity bridges are the reason why HS2 is so over budget. HS2 is only half a job now. The 20 million in the North have been ignored again

It's funny. None of the money invested in hs2 comes from the fictional 'leveling up' fund but rather it comes from the bond market.

There never was going to be a Phase 2. The rich profit far too much from forcing us into cars and planes, despite the fact it's literally killing us and making 200 species extinct every day.
