I'd argue the brand is about "understated elegant beauty" and upper-class comfort with that. That means it doesn't need gas guzzling or the sound of a V8 (or more) with insufficient sound dampening. Also, it's not about a 0.25 mile performance number, or street races. The Tesla car brand however have taught us that an eV has more potential in the 0.25 mile than an ICE car. In the 1920s, world wide, there were more eV than ICE cars, by the way. I loath American land yachts with big engines that perform like nothing. Typically bought, in the past, in my country, by pimps and other criminals. The AC-derived Cobra with a 7 litre (427 ci) Ford block - Shelby actually wanted a Chevy block from GM but they did not want Shelby - was the only "real" sports car in my opinion in my youth. More reliable than an AH 3000 (the latter with a bit more class). Bottom line, for me, it may be easier to develop an eV than an ICE car. Today. If they could recreate something like the 411 series 5 in eV - wow. I appreciate your feelings, and let's agree to disagree, but this is the best chance of getting the British brand back on the road. Also, it's time for different design than what's out there now. We need that "understated elegant beauty" and upper-class comfort.

The Bristol brand is long on heritage, as an aircraft company, which I appreciate, and with some of their more recent designs, also staggeringly beautiful as well. As a child growing up in Australia, I recall a magnificent Bristol, in polished aluminium, and it looked glorious.

The best way to honour and cherish a marque such as Bristol is to concentrate on the ones that still exist. There are one or two companies still around who do exactly that. You cannot justify electric power by comparing it to Anthony Crook's arrangements to fit (and re-engineer) a Chrysler V8. We already have MonsodiumGlutamate MGs there is no need to bastardise another British legend.

I have no problems with electric cars as a concept, I just worry about the recharging and the range available. They seem ideal for city travelers going short distances, but anything outside the city, forget it !
@ComeJesusChrist2 ай бұрын
My heart sank at 4:04. ‘Electric’ means that another great British name will be reduced into a label to flock inferior, but overpriced Chinese appliances on wheels and generic towels or socks, getting lost in the dirty world of brand franchise. I became familiar with Bristol twenty-odd years ago after moving into the UK and I was considering buying one of their older models, liking the unique and attractive designs that somehow never reach perfection, making them even more desirable. I knew people who owned a few older models and they had clearly exquisite taste in cars throughout, which appealed to me. Unfortunately, I opted for a more sensible, classic 107 SL Mercedes instead, which won me over the Porsche 928, BMW 8 series and the E30 320IS. All these cars were attainable almost twenty years ago and less than £10k would have bought half-decent, running examples at bottom of the market. The ageing Bristols started at around £6-7k and as older cars, they were competing against the Jensen Interceptor, which I also liked and considered. On reflection, it would have been a better decision to ignore any fear over fuel consumption figures with a car that is never really used every day. At least I learnt a lesson that steered my car ownership decisions ever since, never buying anything new or newish and losing huge amounts of money for something inferior, overpriced and wrecked for political reasons, which is the route Jaguar, Lotus and now Bristol seems to be choosing now, following legacy car manufacturers. In fact, being involved with EVs in any capacity is even worse a faith than legacy auto’s. That’s a quick path to destruction and to be flocked as a brand name and being ripped off of any history and meaning.

Hope they can reboot the brand. I remember visiting the showroom in Kennington circa 2005 and being check out by Tony Crook as I had peek at a roadster and a 2 door saloon. An EV based on the 411 would be awesome. Especially if they can build new chassis rather than repurposing old rusty shells. Jenson is another brand I’d love to see revived. There is a company making bespoke vehicle (they are the same people as the Chiefton Range Rover I think - spelling/name questionable!!), but again it’s more restomod than new production! A 21st century EV Jenson FF or Interceptor with retro vides would be awesome too. A Jenson v Bristol EV twin test!!! 😍😍😍

This is one of those cars where, if you have to ask the price, you're "not ready" to own one. A traditional hand-made carriage, but the panels don't fit together perfectly and the doors might well fall off. Cheaper than owning race horses or ocean-going yachts, though.

Don't be afraid of the Chrysler engine and transmission. Yes they are a bit thirsty but so is every car of similar power and performance. If you want an economy car the Bristol is not it. On the good side, they are extremely reliable and long lived and produce lots of smooth power. Will usually go 150,000 miles or more with minimal upkeep. And parts are easily available and cheap. At least in the US. The Torqueflite gearbox was state of the art in its day and also very reliable and long lived.

My Father had a production factory in Brackley, his Unit was very close to Ernie Knott, in 1977 he wanted to replace his Mercedes, talking to Ernie he was offered a Gordon Keeble, as the car was I think 10 years old he stated he wanted something new, with a warranty and oh the irony something reliable, he purchased a brand new, super stylish in 1977, Rover V8 SDI, over two years it spent something like four months back at dealership, in this period he drove Triumph Dolomites Sprints, Princess, Range Rovers, even an MGB V8, when I look at the price of the Gordon Keeble today I always laugh...
