I'm in Canada. I just bought my first Jaguar, and it's also an XK-R! 2010 with only 12,000 km on it...owned by my neighbour who is 92 years old and the original owner. I can not tell you how much I love this car! Frost Blue too!

Your excitement and enthusiasm driving this car says it all. I test drove a prime example last year and fell in love with it, but had some family issues to deal with and missed out. I ended up getting a S Type naturally aspirated 4.2 sport, which I love, but my heart is to get the XKR 4.2, it is the best GT car for the money, no question. Like you I drove the 5 litre version, the 4.2 has more charm, feels more Jag - you have to test drive them to appreciate it. I will get one, in the meantime I’m enjoying my S Type 4.2 Sport!

Hi, I've a 4.2 XKR XK100 convertible, I've had 33mpg at my best on a trip, 6 speed ZF box. Love my engine very much, the 4.2 is simple and reliable compared to the very complex 5.0. The fuel injection system on the bigger motor is extremely expensive if it goes bad. The 4.2 isn't direct injection but this is no bad thing, as it just keeps going and going.

A good choice for a car that stands out in a crowd. I've owned a 2010 5L XK for 18 months and real world driving get an average of 28 miles to the gallon. I also own a 2010 3L diesel Touareg and average 30 mpg, maxing at around 44 mpg on a 160 mile motorway run at a pretty constant 70mph. But for smiles per mile ... it has to be the Jag XK. They do suffer from battery drain, which can cause all sorts of erroneous fault messages on the info system, so a CTEK charger/conditioner is a wise purchase. Lidl had them the other day for around £60 and they are IDENTICAL (apart from the logo) to the Jag branded trickle charger that they knock out for £180 Oh ... and on your slight niggle point about wishing you could hear the exhaust note in the cabin ... Ian Callum and those thoughtful people at Jaguar design included two electrically operated side windows in the package, solely for that reason ;-)
@HSGAutomotive
@HSGAutomotive 3 жыл бұрын
Haha, I meant with the windows open as well. Maybe I'm just spoiled from the other cars I've reviewed which are more audible in the cabin. Incidentally on the point of battery drain, do you mean if the car is left standing for days at a time, or regardless of use?
@stevepitts7998
@stevepitts7998 3 жыл бұрын
@@HSGAutomotive Left standing on the drive. I bought a brand new battery for mine and it still occasionally showed a low battery warning if I didn't use it for a couple of weeks (on holiday etc.). Plugging it into the CTEK once a month seems to avoid the issue, but the best remedy is to regularly get out for a good run I guess. BTW I found calculating the mpg by using the trip computer (accesses via the push button on the end of the left hand stalk) a more reliable way of checking mpg than using the fuel gauge, which tends to take ages to move from a fill-up ... giving an optimistic mpg

@HSGAutomotive
@HSGAutomotive 3 жыл бұрын
You're much closer to the back end in an F-Type. No rear seats, much shorter car, likely a different exhaust shape too. Plus the F is a purer sports car, whereas the XK is a long distance GT, and those tend to go more for the 'civilized' angle.

@HSGAutomotive
@HSGAutomotive 3 жыл бұрын
From my ownership experience between 2005 Quattroporte vs 2007 XKR, the Jag has a number of small, mostly electronic gremlins to fix every so often, nothing too expensive, whereas the Maserati had two major issues back to back, gearbox stopped working and milky oil, which were going to be very expensive to repair. And no I haven't reviewed an X100 as yet, though I do hope to in future

like it, but for a fuel test you should try how many miles from a full tank of fuel, because the fuel tank itself is shaped, the top half holds more fuel than the smaller shape of the bottom half, therefore would bring the total mpg of the tank down. that why the second half of a tank always seems to empty alot quicker than the first half of the tank. Just plain physics..

Your maths are sound, only thing I would say is it would have been best if you had topped up again near home, noting the difference, the one quarter mark might be off, some vehicles act like there tanks are shaped like an inverted pyramid. Best of luck with the new motor.
@richardbentley1202
@richardbentley1202 3 жыл бұрын
Completely agree with this comment, the first quarter movement of a fuel gauge is often hopelessly inaccurate. Top it up and see how much you’ve used is the only way. Nice car, I’ve spent the last 12 months pondering and looking. There are quite a few with rusty rear subframes, shame they weren’t protected properly. Quite a few have been driven on a too small a budget and not looked after. Most have had bent front wheels at some point too (looking at MOT histories online). I hope you enjoy your car and it a good one!

@HSGAutomotive
@HSGAutomotive 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah you'll fit fine, I'm 6'3 117 kgs and fit comfortably. Up to a 6'8 driver could likely fit well enough. Nothing really to avoid, all of this generation use the same base engine apart from the rare 3.5 V8's, the newer 5.0 litres have different issues, so just look for a loved one, and expect some smaller jobs over time regardless of it's condition.

@@HSGAutomotiveThose fuel gauges very deceptive. The first "quarter" goes down slowly, and then the needle seems to just fall over! Absolutely adore those Jags and want to get one. You don't think the supercharger would have reliability issues relative to the naturally aspirated? Perhaps might have been pushed a little harder by previous owner?

6'3, so 1.9m or so. It looks a lot more snug than it is, the XK is easily one of the best GT's out there for space

@@doktorzappergeck492 Definitely not, it’s one of the most deceptively spacious cars I’ve driven. Looks super sleek from the outside, but on the inside it’s got more driving room than my Touareg. I can put the seat so far back that I can’t reach the pedals 😂 easily fit a 6’7 driver or more

A very clasdy car. I very much doubt you will get 38 mpg. It's worth trying it out. My neighbour gets approx. 42 mpg on his Jag XF 3.0d Portfolio S.

Found it was the range being a little too 'hopeful' on Jag's part, haha. It gets 23 mpg in practice, around 380 to a tank of fuel. Roughly 50 miles for every £10 in other words
