hi :) how does one distinguish between a small dog and a puppy, if a puppy is called a small dog? I guess that goes for kittens too?!

@@NetzHog hi,yep you are right. 小means the size is small or they are in their baby time , 小狗 can be mean this is a puppy or this is a dog but their size is smaller than human. for example, when you saw a golden retriever on the street, you can say 这有一只小狗。In here 小狗just like a nick name for all dogs. same as 小猫 cat ,小猫not only for the kitty, also for the all cats. 小孩 means kids.☺
