5:12 the validator on the left validates your paper VR ticket (for trips outside the HSL area on VR trains) and the one on the right is used for purchasing single tickets on Travelcards and validating single use Travelcards. There is no need to validate single paper tickets for travel inside the HSL area. One can also check the information of the Travelcard on one of these blue validators (season ticket info etc). HSL - Helsinki Region Transport Authority (sets prices of tickets, plans timetables etc for transport in the cities and municipalities of Helsinki, Vantaa, Espoo, Kauniainen, Sipoo, Tuusula, Kerava, Kirkkonummi and Siuntio).

Great to see you in Finland! :) The Finnish Flirts are OK as a semi-daily passenger of them, but ideally only for short journeys. The old commuter stock (types SM1 and SM2 EMU) were more comfortable, sadly most of them don't run anymore on the Helsinki-Turku track. On the other hand the old stock couldn't keep modern timetables anyways that well, by my station they were usually 5-10min late on stopping service if they were used instead of Flirt. In longer commuter services a different type of unit is used instead of Flirt (SM4 EMU), which are more comfy and leaves nicely the short journeys for Flirt. Honestly, it seems in the whole Europe that old trains had better comfort than the new ones, at least what comes to seat. Same applies to Finnish long distance trains IMO, although now there are things such as free wifi, power outlets etc. on modern trains, which can be seen as increasing comfort. BTW, I live just a couple of hundred meters from Huopalahti station seen at 6:53 :P Waiting to see your impressions on long distance trains :)

@MauriOfficial of course Finland is a Scandinavian country. In my book anyway. The country is bilingual, and more importantly the Swedish minority is traditionally heavily upper middle class, so more influential on its culturel ! Finland has also been under Swedish control for centuries, and thus integral part of 'Scandinavian' history. Defining what the geographic border of the peninsula is about as hard as to define Europe's border.

FYI: the costumer decides the interior of the trains. In this case you have to blame VR regarding the seats/seating configuration
@klapiroska4714 Жыл бұрын
To the credit of VR - well, technically the Sm5 FLIRT trains are owned by a separate company called "Junakalusto Oy" so you should blame/thank them - these trains are designed for trips less than 30 minutes. The longest meaningful journey you can make, is Helsinki-Siuntio on L-train (extended route for night service, stops at all stations). This 51km journey will take 56 minutes. The average trip is more like 15-25 minutes, and the relatively hard seats are perfectly good for those kinds of journeys. Keep in mind that the 81 trains see about 214 000 journeys each day. The benefit of hard seats is that they are much easier to keep clean, and they are less likely to break. Still softer than some of the newest bus seats, but far from the comfort of long distance bus/train seats. VR will actually purchase FLIRT trains for commuter/regional train operations outside HSL service area. I hope these get softer sets, as travel times on those services are more like 30-60 minutes.

Helsinki airport has two terminals, so they decided to put the train station in the middle as a compromise. Although the real reason for the placement is probably track geometry (need to have a straight track segment for the station to avoid a gap, for which the London Underground is famous).

I think that the Swiss SBB used the FLIRT train for the wrong purpose. Even in this video, he has clearly mentioned that this train is good for commuter and airport services. @MK-jb5wc4 жыл бұрын
To say Finland is a scandinavian country or not,you have first to make a small research to know what are the criterias on which we are based when we determine a country is scandinavian or not. Here are the criterias: -Geographic location (Large part of Finland is from scandinavia) - Language: Finnish language is not a scandinavian language,but we have to bear in mind that Swedish language is the 2 official language in Finland and in some areas we are speaking only swedish language, another fact is that 10% of Finnish population is native sweds. - The economy and Social life style: Sweden,Norway,Denmark,Iceland and Finland have same scandinavian economy and Social life style. Only 2 countrys satisfy all 3 criterias 100% and are Sweden and Norway. Denmark is part of Netherlands as Geographic location,but it satisfys 2criterias: Language and scandinavian style. Iceland is far away and it is not geografically scandinavian country and the language is different also,but they have same scandinavian economy and Social life style, so it is Scandinavian country. FINLAND: basically it meets almost all criterias. When we talk about scandinavia,we mean automatically those 5 countries: Sweden,Norway,Danmark,Finalnd and Iceland. We do not have to try to play smart without Knowing things.
@XtraGameX4 жыл бұрын
@@MK-jb5wc Maybe you should stop playing smart and accept the fact that Scandinavia is a reified construction widely considered as comprising of Norway, Sweden & Denmark. This consensus has never been disputed and including all Nordic countries as part of Scandinavia is a socio-historiographical error that no scholar would ever acknowledge as correct.
