+Naldy Diaz that all depends on if HTC is willing to spend some money on marketing. The phone is good, but that only matters if people actually know that it exists. It doesn't help that it will only be available from Sprint in the US. Not having it on Verizon or AT&T will be a hurdle they'll need to overcome.

You are so correct on that! It's all about marketing. A shame really. It's the reason why so many think the iPhone is superior to all - marketing. People fall for it. But, it's the way of the world. You gotta get your name out there and into people's consciousness. I think they're going to make it available on Verizon, later in the year. After all, if you go to their website, it has Verizon listed as an option. So, maybe that's coming down the pipeline? :-/ In any case, I'm really appreciating your videos. Keep up the great work! :)

ibziee htc gallery is not compatible anymore with new htc devices u need to download old version from the Internet, I strongly recommend using quickpic, it's not the best in the world but very close to htc gallery and always supported from the dev

It does, you can control white balance, exposure, iso, shutter speed and focus. HTC also gives you the option to create custom manual profiles to save for later - perfect for light painting or long exposure shots.

Which cameras default colours are closer to reality? Seems like HTC's is a bit more saturated than reality and GH4 is a bit less saturated than reality and the contrast kinda makes it seem like HTC is a bit over-saturated but I'm curious as to how close you think it is to real life.

I think Panasonic CH4 has more realistic colours than htc. But HTC U11 is much better in my opinion .

Jiří Huser I think it is a bit of both, the HTC was boosting colours, and the CH4 was washing colours out a bit.

The GH4's colors are a little muted compared to real life, but that can easily be tweaked in the settings. Typically, you want to capture more detail so that you can use all the data to edit later on. That means that the default exposure and saturation should match real life or be a little lower.

As a photographer, I am quite impressed with how the HTC performed. Will it mean I ditch my DSLR? Never, but it would make me confident if I happened to not have my DSLR on me (which is almost never) that I'd still get a pretty good picture. HTCs have been my only Android experience and I'm pretty dissapointed my carrier won't have them available in store. My A9 is starting to feel it's age and I was looking at getting the galaxy, but I might just try to finance the U11 through PayPal.

I am surprised by this video. I own the HTC U11 but it seems as though you are purposefully trying to make the Panasonic GH4 look poor. The HTC must win in approximately 70 to 80% of the shots in your video. Were these taken in Panasonic's iA setting, because I really can't believe that the auto settings on the GH4 would be so poor. It's important to me as the GH4 is on my potential shopping list for a camera to take on Safari later this year, or maybe the FZ20000. This video is making me think is it worth going down the MFT route? What type of lenses were you using? I know that the cameras in phones are starting to compete with proper cameras and most of the shots I took in the Lake District recently were took on my Google Pixel, as with most photos I took being landscape scenery shots, I really didn't see any need to bother with a specialist camera, post processing etc. Are proper cameras now defunct for most types of photography unless you need a telephoto or prime lens? This video appears to be a little misleading. I would have stuck to comparing apples to apples by comparing phone camera to phone camera.

A fun comparison and the HTC U11 looks to have a excellent smartphone camera for sure. I don't think the GH4 would ever be confused with a great stills camera, video is more its thing. Where the dedicated cameras like the GH4 and larger sensor dslr cameras move ahead is in low light and the ability to shoot with a telephoto lens. That being said, how does the saying go? "The best camera is the one you have with you," the U11 looks like a great choice to always have in my pocket to document life's little moments but if on safari I'll take a real camera.

Seems the only remaining strongholds of full-bodied mid-range cams like the GH4 are in depth of field due to lower apertures, and less noise due to bigger sensor. Otherwise, the U11 does amazingly well and shoots above its class.

Thanks. I think real contender here is Pixel. If you think you can do comparison it would be great. HTC U11 images somewhat too soft and seems to be little struggling with focus. Look at the spirits shelve contrast levels are in favour but focus somewhat struggles. Any idea why?

I think if you're just comparing auto modes on both then the U11 will generally produce more aesthetically pleasing shots with comparable optical scenarios but that was really never the point of a GH4 anyway so it's a pretty nuanced kind of comparison to make.

"the colours are more vivid and vibrant" Nothing to do with camera, everything to do with processing, which can be tweaked in camera settings. "the dynamic range works better" There is no way that tiny phone sensor has superior dynamic range. You are fooled by the fact that HTC automatically takes HDR shot for you. "and same at low light conditions" No. HTC will be a lot noisier even when you can use lower ISO when GH4 is mated with a f/2.8 zoom. And if you put a f/1.8 or faster prime on GH4 there's no competition.

Please read the "which can be tweaked in camera settings" part again. By default GH4's jpegs (and video) are deliberately flatter, less saturated, with less sharpness applied, so that you have more control in post. But if you want punchy, saturated photo straight from the camera you can get it as well.

exposure was set to zero and white balance was left on auto on the GH4. While I was in Taipei for the launch of the HTC U11, I joked with one of the HTC reps that I'd do a camera comparison between it and the GH4. I decided to do it in the end after comparing side-by-side pictures form the two devices. As stated in the video, I still take my GH4 with me every time I want to take pictures. There's no substitute for a camera with a larger sensor and really good glass.

Haha, exactly what I expected! It doesn't matter if you set your exposure to "0" or not, what you should have done was use "exposure compensation". In most of your pictures, the whites were extremely blown out as a result of that. The white balance was also set wrong, this gave it a sort of bluish tint. For the night shots, did you actually use the same focal length as the HTC 11's camera? Were those pictures taken with the same ISO? None of those specifics were given and you called this a comparison video. This is a very skewed result in my opinion. You just made the GH4 look like an absolute garbage.
