Nice video. Although I think there is something wrong. The second 5b motive(C-A-Bb-B)should be followed by the third 5b motive (B-Ab-A-Bb). Is B-G-Ab-A a 5b motive?

Correct well spotted. But I wanted the line to go to A so I modified the M5B to fit what I wanted. Remember I am changing his line to make the voice leading better so I don't really want Bb. You don't have to play lines rigidly if they work better modified in certain situations.

@@bebopreview3187 Oke Andy Understood. I would play the last note of the line a octave lower,so maybe I understood some of these lessons! Cheers.

The name is Jen Kwang Chang who is a Taiwanese musician/composer who studied at Berklee school of music. He then went on to do an MM at Emporia State University on Charlie Parker entitled 'Charlie Parker: the Analytical Study of Twenty-two Performance Versions of Now's the Time'. This won the Laurence C. Boylan Thesis Award. You can get his MM dissertation on my facebook page free. facebook.com/BebopReview

Nice video. Just one thing, in you're notation (the original does it correctly) you ignore the correct enharmonic spelling of the D# under the C7, which you have written as the b3 Eb. Conventionally you don't put accidentals before the root or third (and to some degree also the fifth)of the chord, unless you want to show something very specific in the nptes function. You do the same thing over the F6 as well in your version of the line.
@bebopreview31873 жыл бұрын
A matter of grammar I suppose (you're which means 'you are' as opposed to your). Yes Band in a box puts in incidentals that are often wrong to the chords whereas with Sibelius (which they used) you has more control over what you put in. You are quite right to point this out! I'm always stating the importance of correct writing in music particularly key signatures so I should have re written in Sibelius - just being idle I suppose.

ah the open studio boys are such killing players, not suprised they gave a good line!

The level 3 example just doesn't make sense rhythmically. Charlie Parker would have started on a weak beat with that first lick (minor seventh arpeggio combined with M5b) but if u change the example so that it starts on a weak beat, it doesn't end up making sense.
