Because using it as a drama name feels like trivializing the stature of Florence Nightingale. It feels the same as Mr. Right, Mr. Bad, Mr. Gu, Mr. Lizard, Mr. Nobody .... all drama names. Besides, Nightingale is not even a Chinese surname, so Iqiyi VP's explanation doesn't convince anyone. People objected to it because of their high respect for Florence Nightingale and the nursing profession.

You've missed the point. Nobody is disrespecting male nurses, the disrespect was to the memory of her name which should not be twisted into a gimmicky noun for someone else and used as the name of a drama. Chinese dramas generally have extremely tacky English names anyway so their reputation for this is already icky, any association is never a good thing.

Legend of the magnate looks quite interesting. I always enjoy Qing dynasty dramas. Elvis! Elvis! Han! Looking good and handsome. I just finished watching one of his dramas yesterday (Siege in fog) after years of cold feet. FYI it’s alright. Nightingale been a surname is a respectful and brilliant response to the nitpicking history of the courageous Florence Nightingale. Career should not matter when it comes to gender. Hi 👋; IQIY’s conference was filled with trailers and MV’s; my favorite hands down was from Fangs of Fortune as that MV was nearly 5 minutes long and had a great historical meets futuristic Star Wars vibe. But I also really liked the trippy one from A Dream in a Dream (I’m sure I got the title wrong), the spine tingling UTS s2, A Wonderful World, Love of the Divine Tree, White Olive Tree, and several others. Hope we get to see them all in Q3, Q4 and next year. Fire Investigator wrapped yesterday officially as well. Thanks for the update! 😊

They should change the name, Nightingale is not "just a surname" contrary to what IQIYI's VP says (which is telling of his own disregard for history), it is about the adversity women faced to have their labor recognized as professional labor, men faced no such thing in the medical profession (or any profession).

@@thecritic6977 The nightingale is an other which men took back then also . The oath was not about womens movement but a pledge you took after finishing nursing school in which men were involved. The oath is a version of the hypocritic oath both male and female doctors have taken at graduation. After the war there were not many male nurses anymore because mostly women had taken over that duty but in 1972 the first male openly took the nightingale oath so he became the first male nightingale . I'm proud of our male nurses because for me it less stress .

No one has anything against male nurses, but it is not ok to use the name of a woman that historically represents the specific disadvantages that WOMEN had to face to even be recognized professionally. They can use the name of the first historic male nurse. Also the reason why there are less male nurses is very different than the reason for which women had to fight to be nurses. Professions dominated by women are paid less and socially disregarded, so men also tend to join them less. Hence why men were dominating as doctors, not as nurses. There are countless studies on this, you could bother to open a sociology or a history book if you want to learn or do some basic research online!

Hi Marcus! I'm looking forward to Under The Skin Season 2! I think I prefer TJC being a bit angsty or angry. An 8 month long drama shoot! Is that a new record? With that long a shoot, they'd better have 2 seasons' worth of episodes! Not having read the novel, I do wonder, though, how a peony business story line could hold my interest to breathlessly wait for the 2nd part in 10-12 months.... I've learned my lesson with the Lost You Forever Fiasco. And Yang Zi is moving on from Family Business One--Peony Growing to Family Business Two--Ink Making, bwahaha. I'm surprised First Shot isn't topping the charts with all its online chatter and fandom CPing. It's not a bad show at all. OH! One last thing--Mr. Nightingale. Florence Nightingale was not a Wonderful person. She bullied people around her to get what she wanted. Her staff did not love her. This image perpetuated in the Herbert Wilcox and Anna Neagle movie about the lady with the lamp is wrong. Those of us who have studied history of the time, really admire Mary Seacole. Who I hear you ask? She was a selfless women who nursed the soldiers at the front line of fighting. Saving their lives, using her own resources to send the men to Scutari where in the care of the Medical staff too many of them died. I shall look forward to watching the drama I'll think of ass Mr Seacole.

It is good to make a drama as a tribute to male nurses but, it is stupid to use such a title coz it is a name the whole world is familiar with and almost belongs to one person that the whole world accepts. Also, for a profession run by females, more than 2/3 of the whole nursing population worldwide, you can't bypass females and go directly to males as female nurses face much more difficulties than male nurses when working in the real world

I have to say Chinese doctors cannot be very well trained, my Mum was in China this week and she presented to a hospital in Henan with a productive cough and hoarse voice and they ordered a Chest CT!!! without even auscultating her chest then proceeded to tell her she had pneumonia but they couldn't give her any antibiotics for it (no logical reason was given), to wait until she gets home to Malaysia and see her local doctor there again. After she paid for all the tests in their hospital, they had no intention to treat. For me that is medicolegal negligence. So I wonder why they keep making dramas about their medical system which is clearly bad.
