I always loved the lion dance, which is a tradition in Cantonese region and at the same time the symbol of England. Nothing can replace it in representing Hong Kong.

There didn't seem to be any royalty that evening. Why did they execute a Royal Salute Present Arms?
@VT4019 жыл бұрын
A Royal Salute is given when a person is present representing the Sovereign, even though that person is not a member of the Royal Family. In this case, that person on the stage is most likely is Gov. Patten (Last Gov. of Hong Kong). This is the same all over the commonwealth. Such as in the case of William and Kate visiting Canada with the Gov. Gen. it was the Governor General who received a Royal Salute, while HRH William and Kate stayed on the side . it does not mean he outranks William but that on that particular occasion the Gov. Gen. represented the Sovereign Personally. In other cases, the Royal Salute is rendered in Salute of a particular member of the Royal Family on their person and not as representative.

I am not sure about that. Let's say the inspecting officer was a British Army general, and all commissioned officers are technically commissioned by the sovereign to command her troops on her behalf. In this case, it would still be a general salute and not a royal salute. You may argue the Governor was appointed by the Queen, but technically so is the Prime Minister. When the PM takes a salute, it is usually a general salute and again, not a royal one.

alvindurochermtl You are correct Sir, and I forgot to mention that. In an inspection by General Officers, a General Salute is given as tribute to the inspecting officer on his person. That's why in a "Pass and Review" ceremony attended by General Officers, a general salute is rendered and the Parade Officer ends with "The concludes "your" parade sir, May we have your permission to march off?" If the inspection is done by a member of the Royal Family in uniform as General Officer (e.g. Commissioning, Inspection, P&R) a Royal Salute is given. The difference being is that General Officers do not make or deviate policy in territories under their jurisdiction, whereas Governors appointed are allowed as direct representatives of the Sovereign.
