Yotsuya Fire Station responding for a fire call.
The first engine to leave was actually from the neighbouring Shinjukugyoen Fire Station, and is an "A-One Fire Unit". Even their bunker gear are a different colour to differentiate themselves.
More info on "A-One Fire Unit" can be found here:
www.tfd.metro.tokyo.jp/ts/sa/p...
Majority of the firefighters were in the yard doing an exercise/ training when the call came in.
The subsequent trucks were just regular pumps of different size.
The initial dispatch was actually a preliminary/standby tone, which instructs the relevant appliances and firefighters to get ready and gear up whilst the dispatch centre gathers more information and pinpoints the exact location of the call. The tone at about 1:27 is the actual turnout order.
The announcement you hear for most of the video is just a promotional/advertising van parked nearby with speakers promoting the Japanese Communist Party.

Japanese emergency vehicles are so unusual and interesting. Like I can't get over the fact they are quite literally toys, but I absolutely love the sirens! And it does make me laugh the intercomm is sounding for the entire time lol.
@mlps93
@mlps93 7 жыл бұрын
lol They have to be this size because the residential streets are literally tiny, and most of them are single file one way. Good luck trying to fit a slow and bulky American truck in, even the Scania's and Dennis's we're accustomed to may have trouble getting through. I actually like the intercom, uniquely Japanese, it's a lot more polite and less obnoxious and they can instruct others what to do/where to move or make their intentions/direction of travel known rather than just blasting the horn.
@CobraEmergency
@CobraEmergency 7 жыл бұрын
Yeah that makes sense. It's a similar scenario in London - they were going to go to Scania but chose not to because they are too big for some streets. The Mercedes-Benz Ategos were much smaller in size than the Scanias - all though the newest Ategos are clearly much larger, so not sure about the logic there. It's certainly very effective. Blasting a horn doesn't say much, but using an intercom does. We don't have intercoms on our emergency vehicles in the UK, so it has to be the horn - but genuinely UK drivers are polite enough to move long before there's a need for horn. Unlike in the USA, particularly NYC, where emergency vehicles blast their horn as they're stuck in traffic - sometimes they use their intercom but they usually shout "GET OUT THE WAY, MOVE!". Haha. Like I did hear Park Rangers use the intercom for an ambulance in Central Park and they were like "Guys, you gotta get out the way for the emergency vehicle"

well these sirens kinda sound like the ones that go off in Germany when there's an emergency so the volunteer firefighters know where to run next. Here's a video of them kzbin.info/www/bejne/qZjaXoNjoad5qbc

Standard for Tokyo Fire Department to leave their gates open during the day and just have nets like that. The Japanese take safety *very* seriously in this aspect, there's always someone to stop pedestrians when they're turning out, this here is actually a rarity to have that many, probably because it's a fire call with multiple trucks turning out and this is a somewhat high pedestrian-traffic area. The first guy was telling me to move back -__- But I just inched forward again afterwards as the lady wasn't as forceful lol
@mlps93
@mlps93 6 жыл бұрын

LOL noticed that female FF was a lot softer... Hmm interesting bit about the nets, did not know that at all. I thought most stations just simply didn't have bay doors, never saw these nets being used ever (at least not on YT lol)
@mlps93
@mlps93 6 жыл бұрын
maybe because i start my videos once the coding/turnout tone sounds, most of the Japanese users seem to only start the video as they're about to turnout lol the guys can be equally as soft, there's another video of this fire station turning out as well from a few years back with a really polite male FF lol kzbin.info/www/bejne/p36cZ2B-hLOIo7c all stations have gates, if you go to my Shibuya ambulance video you can see the gate opening

They do, but during the day Tokyo Fire Stations leave them open and just have a net there due to the frequency of calls, and also to create a sense of welcome and openness in the local community/area afaik

Hello. My name is Alistair Young and I am a teacher from West Yorkshire in England. I am producing an educational video focused on teaching our young people about the incredible sacrifices that are made by our emergency services every day around the world. I hope this will also teach the importance of respect and recognition of our services. This video is brilliant and I would love to be able to use some of this footage in my video with appropriate crediting of course. Thanks so much.

Yes great video but 2 minutes 15 seconds before the first piece of apparatus to hit the road is a little slow. I don't know what their procedures are so I'm not judging in any way but in USA that's not satisfactory for a paid department so it's just an observation. I do think it is a great video and so very thankful the sharing of it. WOW, Japan has had way too many disasters in the past 10 years. I'm still finding new videos of 2011 tsunami and I watch all... Watching how these people first experience one of the strongest quakes ever, then wait for the first giant wave to strike and wipe out the lives and hearts of these fine people. They watch as everything they have worked for be swept away in half a day. I truly can not imagine how they can start again. As they are high on the hill it begins to snow. Wet and cold, they have no other choice but stay where they are. Seeing the people scramble trying to out run the water but can't brakes my heart. The past storm, flood, another earthquake in the past few months, how can they be strong?? How can they go forward when everything has been taken from them over and over. It's way beyond sad.
@mlps93
@mlps93 6 жыл бұрын
This wasn't a regular turnout for them, the initial tones were actually a standby tone, the additional tones at about 1:27 is the true dispatch tones. So once they got the order that they were needed, they were out in under a minute which is good. I've seen FDNY and Las Vegas videos where they take longer. There's more preparation done before they leave the station compared to other countries, due to the complexity and history/ non-standardisation of some Japanese streets, they will usually go over and quickly study a physical detailed map of the call area first to determine the location of the hydrants, and also in some cases the blueprints of the building and area. If you look carefully behind each of the driver, there is a blue board with all the essential information and location of the call. About an extra 20-30 seconds may be used for this, but this time is made up when they know exactly where to go and what to do once they get to the location, rather than only coming up with a strategy and trying to locate hydrants at the scene. Which is also why you see the first truck go a different direction because they know their role is more specialised and may approach the call from a different angle. Japanese are very resilient and respectful and show great restraint even in desperate times. What may seem as slow or "inefficient" is usually because they need to be more ready and have a greater degree of preparation to minimise greater loss in the long run. An American fire department may be faster out the door, but they could be less organised once on scene if they can't determine the location of hydrants or don't know the layout of a building or what other risks may be in the vicinity.

There is always one smart ass saying "too slow", ALWAYS. It feels slow because you're watching it in front of your computer. Moreover depending on the doctrine, it can be that these guys pack extra stuff or take time to do thing before leaving the station. You compare it to the US, but there are so many different FDs there, with so many different protocoles and techniques that I don't see how you can make a point. For all I know, I've seen loads of terrible shit done by american FDs, much more serious than appearing "too slow". I find it always amazing how people feel self-entitled to set the appropriate response time of FDs around the world.
