This was from his rearrangement he made from the BGM from Contra. That was for The Next where he had to rearrange it in 24 hours, that was more of rock song. In Singer 2020 he rearranged it with his friend you saw in the video (he was together with him in Superboy 2013), so maybe you know the song from Contra? Or it just happens to sounds like another song, but he composes his songs all by himself and usually Bernard Zheng finishes it and Pei yu writes lyrics with/for him. So it wouldn’t have been from something you know except if it is Contra

Hi Martin. This is his very good friend Zuo Li. They met during the Superboy contest that Hua Hua won and their friendship has lasted all these years. One of the very few people that Hua Hua trusts. Zuo Li understands him and is also very protective of him

He rearranged his own rearrangement of a video game theme song called contra. His original version of that song is called ‘call me contra’ and he performed it on the next 👍 I recommend checking that one out too, it’s completely different to this version.

He's a genius!!! This is from the video game "Contra", that's why you feel familiar. He was asked to make a song from the BGM on "The Next" in 24 hours. He made "Code name Contra" in 2017, then he rearranged again for Singer2020. 2 totally different songs.

Love his friend Zuo Li's great guitar playing. They have collaborated a few times at Hua's concerts. They were roommates for a short time during Superboy. Zuo Li shares a funny story about this. Hi Martin, always love your reaction to HuaHua. Since you’ve reacted to his “I really want to love this world”, do you want to also react to his second song in the trilogy about depression? It’s called Madhouse. He sang this song in Singer 2020 as well. I personally prefer his 2019 Mars concert version better. Here is the link kzbin.info/www/bejne/aqmohmWqiN-EeJo. This is his own composition. The whistle at the beginning is amazing. His energy can burn the whole stage. Super great rock song and impressive performance. Become one of my favorite now.

Hi Martin! Always a pleasure to watch your reactions! Hua caught us all by surprise with his whistling, a music critic said that rarely can someone whistle this clear and high. Since this was broadcast from the small studio in Beijing during confinement, Hua wanted this song of his « to be cool and a bit silly with the glasses » 😄. Please Martin, as someone mentioned, react to God/Sacred Tree, Arrival and New World in this sequence as Hua designed it, Sacred Tree is about destruction of the World, Arrival about re-birth of everything and New World is the world after... When I first discovered Hua Chenyu, I watched all the reaction videos of his songs as I could. There was a video contest which he traveled with a group of singers to different countries. In NYC, he asked one of his friends, also a competitor to play the guitar for this song. They walked on stage carrying a small teacup with a saucer. They placed it on the floor beside their chair. Towards the ending at that great pause, both of them simultaneously bent down, picked up the teacup, sipped, then put it back down. Looked at each other and did that fast hard ending. I loved it!!! .. Unfortunately, the video was taken down.

If you watch the Super Boy 2013 competition, you will get some fascinating insights. Zuo Li is his good friend from that time, and a great guitarist. I think Hua Chenyu was best man at his wedding. Hard to keep track of all the videos I have been watching lately of Hua Chenyu, especially ones from 2011. Finally was able to find English subs for Laure Shang and HuaHua interaction at his 2013 audition. She is a wonderful singer and a lifesaver. I have read that she brought Dimash to China. Hua composed the original version of this song few years ago in another TV show. On that TV show, the task is to write a song using the element/idea/melody from the famous video game ‘Contra’. He rewrote the song for singer 2020, which has more western vibe

He was "paying tribute" to Western styled music hence the title. The start sounded like Johnny Cash "Hurt" which was used in the trailer "Logan". Hua Hua ability to incorporate that into this rearrangement of his own song is brilliant. Hope that helps you solve the puzzle 🤗🤗

The other guy in the videos name is Zuo Li. He was one of the other contestants on Superboy 2013 when Hua Hua competed on that show and won the title for that year. They became really close friends during the course of that show and have remained very close in the years after. Hua Hua was even the best man at his wedding. Hua Hua usually has him play the guitar when he turns one of his existing songs into an acoustic version like he did here.
