Consort Li bore a son to former emperor but consort Liu claimed that he was her own son who became later next emperor of Zhou dynasty. In real history, consort Li never received Empress Dowager title her life but she received it posthumously and consort Liu hold Empress Dowager title until she died. This is real history. Justice Bao serie embellishes history for entertaining people.

The story was narated partly in accordance with what had happened 470 years later during the Ming dynasty, viz., 明孝宗, who stayed with his mother in a dark corner of the palace until he's 6 and his mother had then accidentally died soon after his background recovery.

Royal Robe being beaten is actually practice nowadays by those people ruling aboce sky. much to disgust of normal citizen. Those politicians are good at this game .
Hardships? That poor guy still held under house arrest. lol Now he has to wait for Judge Bao to return so he can sue the empress dowager for abandonment!
Punish the emperor by beating his clothes?? Sounds totally stupid.

It’s not, famously chao chao broke a law he himself set, but the punishment was supposedly death, but he instead cut off his hair as the punishment, most modern day people would say that’s putting on a show, it’s not, it’s an official punishment of the ancient day called 髠,you see people back then don’t cut their hairs like we do, and they consider their hair an important part of a person’s appearance, thus cutting that meant that your punishment is hung over your head for everyone to see, literally, it was a very shameful act. The modern day equivalent would be shaving someone’s eyebrows. It is much the same here, what is an emperor? He is an icon of the state, and all that power comes only from the respect and fear that comes from that being the symbol of the state, making him undress in public and have his symbol of power strip off and taken to be beaten, that act alone is the same as slapping him in the face over and over

@@ricardoz5714 Funny you said that. A lot of young Chinese colleagues of mine have also expressed their disgust with outdated Chinese traditions like burning incense, burning offerings for the so-called gods and ancestors and etc. Guess working aboard has finally opened their eyes to science, logic and reasons.

@C P oh ya to add a reply to your original comment. In the context of the show, Justice is served if the 1) empress is satisfied with the punishment and 2) the punishment is in line with the law. He managed to do both. Even the empress (the one being hurt initially) is happy with the result and think justice is served, on what basis are you saying that it is a joke?
