Netflix i dont use but i did install the app successfully. i havent logged in as not a netflix user. i do use Prime video which works fine. best thing about it is the Huawei VR Glass VR headset i bought that plugs into the phone. its incredible. and you can play your games/movies/youtube on it as well.

As Android users, we always call out Apple users for being too trapped by IOS, but unknowingly, many of us are likewise trapped in ourselves by GMS. While it may not apply to everyone, it's always exciting to try a new ecosystem. I came from BB OS to IOS (momentarily), and then to Android, and while there's always some adjustments to get over, new experiences always feel fresh.

the problem is not just GMS, the problem is that apps from U.S companies are not allowed to be publish on Appgallery so you will have to sideload so much apps that you would normally find on playstore

The problem is that many of those won't launch or, even when they do, they won't work properly (no push notifications, no access to mapping services, no sync). The phone is simply unusable in Europe/US right now (unless all you do is answer calls and take pictures)

Gotta say, I'm not missing Play Services overly much. I never integrated them too deeply into my daily life anyway, luckily. Gmail - don't care, can just add the account to the regular old email app. KZbin - A combination of Vanced and a browser bookmark is working very well for me. Maps - It does complain that it won't work without play services on startup - then proceeds to work perfectly. No complaints there. The only thing I actually miss is Android Auto because my Hyundai i10 supports it, but I can honestly live with just using the phone itself for navigation. Not really using any of the other stuff, and there's very little I can't get from the Aurora store or APKpure. So for the price of some very minor inconveniences, I get an absolutely stellar phone. That's good enough for me.

I'm very tempted to buy one. But I haven't fount one single review or article on how I could connect my Wear OS watches to the new Huawei phones! I use the Skagen Falster 3 & the Mont Blanc Summit 2 on a daily basis. Not to mention the Galaxy Active Watch 2. And I just can't get a phone where I can't connect thr former two watches to. I actually watched my S20 battery trickle down while connected to Android Auto and using maps once! Manage to stop the drain by closing all apps from the multitask switcher. Shouldn't be that bad.

Well I own the Mate 30 pro and I can tell that life without GMS is absolutely better :) Huawei offers the best specs (except for the 120Hz thing, but lets see how batteries behave in those phones and how long it takes for Samsung Users to disable the feature). The esthetic of the phones is just perfect (but this depends on each individual opinion) and improves competence in the market, which is always a good thing to have... I don't see myself changing brand for a while

I've had one since April 2020. I live in Ireland and no banking apps work, the COVID app doesn't work, every app that I used previously with my old android does not work. I have a screen protector and a strong rubber case, I dropped it from about 12 inches and it cracked right across the screen, I dropped it a 2nd time and it rendered it useless, it cost me 350.00 for repair. I do not recommend this phone if you want a good camera? The get a good SLR for half the price. It's the most app unfriendly and fragile/brittle mobile phone on the market...

Hey, no offense meant and I actually really like you as a reviewer, but i feel like normal people do not own many fancy phones as tech youtubers do, and will use this phone as their daily driver. Hence, they will feel the usual annoyances of not having he google apps they are just so used to. Even manually downloading apks is just a pain in the ass when you have to pay that much for a phone. I know the camera is revolutionary but the software just makes it a tough sell. Then what about banking apps, a lot of them are not even in HMS. I hope youtubers do not mislead their viewers too much pretending everyhing will gonna be fine when you get this phone. You reviwers all have the privelege to try other phones and forgive huawei if you only need to use the phone for a few hours. Buyers will use it more often! I eill reconsider once the ecosystem is ripe, or at least the price is more reasonable to forgo other flagships fron other brands.

Nobody talks about local apps, like banking and stuff, there are some apps that make your life much easier and some are a must have tbh and I highly doubt these will be on a huawei store any time soon, what a shame. Also watching youtube or any other app in a browser is just a shitty experience. The two main banking apps are available on AppGallery in Sweden; BankID and Swish. The others work if you sideload/clone them and will hopefully be available on AppGallery sooner rather than later.

The true reason why the US banned Huawei from accessing Google services is because Huawei smartphones are so damn good, in every way. If they could be equipped with Google, it would be a direct hit to Apple, and they knew the competition would be tough (even Samsung would have a hard time). I mean, look at it. I have a P30. The design is sleek, compact, the chip is powerful (plus the bloatware is minimum, so that add to the speed), the camera produces nice and sharp images, the battery is OK if you are a regular user (personally, it takes me 2-3 days to charge). Now, with all of that on your hand, combined with a more attractive price and Google services, and the ability to customize your phone as every other Android phones, Apple iPhones would be in trouble. I really hope that Huawei can upgrade their App Gallery so that it will be more "international-based", having more neutral/English contents, more famous apps. That way, we won't have to depend so much on Google.

At first I wouldn't entertain this phone. But the more I see the more I like. I'm really underwhelmed with my s20 ultra to sat the least. Was hoping to get rid of that for the upcoming OnePlus 8 Pro. But if the rumours are right about its new price I won't be getting that. I'm leaning towards this phone tbh. I'm not worried about the app situation. There's a work around for those. And in fairness to Huawei their phones in my opinion have the best cameras bar none! They seem to have had the sensible approach. 90hz instead of 120hz refresh rate which is definitely the sweet spot 50x zoom instead of that absolutely useless 100x zoom on my s20 ultra. Yep looking promising.

So whenever the programmer can benefit from Google Services data (drm, security data, location data, etc) they will implement it and that's it ! There is no guarantee that your banking app that might be working now will still work next year. Same with uber, not working properly without the services. Also updates don't always work as they sometimes render an app useless and you have to update them on another phone and copy them to the P40. Why on earth would anybody want this for themselves ? To make moon pictures ?

FYI Stereo speakers on such a small device is utterly pointless! Here is why: To actually hear ANY stereo effect the left speaker must be physically on the left side of your head and vice versa with the right speaker! Sorry but I get really triggered by KZbin reviewers harping on about 2 stereo speakers on small devices that are physically in front of your face and NOT either side of your head. It is a myth that stereo speakers on ANY small device is better than 1 speaker, unless of course you are refering to volume level and NOT stereo effect. Sorry if you think I am a hater, I am not, I am trying to let you all know about realistic stereo ambitions. PS Great video, I gave you athumbs up and I really like the look of this handset, I am considering an upgrade and this helped me a lot! Peace.

Indeed you may be listening on a device that has a great quality of sound with 2 speakers and when you compare it to another device with one speaker it is better. But my comment is about stereo effect and NOT sound quality. Dolby is not a stereo effect it is an auto compression effect, nothing to do with stereo! Seeing that I have been around and remember when dolby was first available on commercial devices (The early 70's) I am sure I know what I am talking about. it won't work with any app requires gms framework(youtube Netflix or gmap) unless you install gms mauanlly.(however gpay still won't work) but there's replacement such as vanced youtube, here we go.

You will find there an option to create a shortcut to the homepage. And that's it, you go to your home screen and there will be the KZbin, Netflix, Spotify or whatever thing you wanted to add

It's time to give chance to the alternatives... Google may be convenient but there are a lot of better alternatives out there for each Google app... Google cloud and photos ? Get onedrive... KZbin app? Get KZbin vanced (which blocks all ads, features background playback and picture in picture mode.. Much better than stock app), Google maps? Get here we go or osmand... Everything is possible without Google.. You just need to invest a few precious minutes of your life to install the required apks 😄

Hey Tech Chap, I regularly follow and like your videos, but I am concerned about the advice given in this one. I concede that each of us will use their phone slightly differently and will prioritise different features, but no reviewer in good faith can currently recommend a new Huawei phone to a user in the UK (or Europe), even with all the caveats you highlight in the video. Yes, you can find many apps in 3rd party app stores or using APKMirror, but once the novelty of that has worn off, you will find that many many of those apps either don't work at all or have very limited usability. You won't get push notifications from many apps, you can't sign into Chrome or Google Maps, you can't sync your Google calendar, you can't watch Netflix, you can't even order a meal from Deliveroo!! The majority of apps are just broken on a Huawei phone at the moment. It is just not a realistic proposition for any Western customer who is serious about using a smartphone in the long run. A serious reviewer like yourself can not be complacent about such limitations and should clearly say that, as things currently stand, no one should buy this phone, unless they live in China

A good workaround is to buy a 200$ phone for those needs not covered by this. Or hang on to something like an old s9 for those needs and use this for everything else. If you're a two phone person already, you can certainly buy this. In an age where few flagships give you good value anymore, this is not a bad choice if you have a supplementary phone with GMS for your banking apps, maybe stuff like Uber etc(these apps might not work even if you install GMS through the backdoor which opens up security loopholes anyway and is not recommended. Especially since because a lot of people won't buy it in certain regions, you are likely to get very competitive prices for this.

I speak from my own experience (as a Huawei enthusiast), after having owned and used a Huawei Mate XS for several days - and I can tell you that new Huawei phones without GMS are pretty unusable in Europe at the moment. So I know exactly what I’m talking about, the amount of basic stuff that simply won’t work with this device will soon frustrate any UK user to the point they will no doubt return their handsets. Any reviewer (who’s actually tried the phone) knows this perfectly well and in my view should be honest with their followers. Huawei are currently approaching countless reviewers in the UK to sponsor their new handsets, but sadly a good advert won’t change the deeply flawed experience of owning their Google-less handsets.
