George!! Sorry, i love cats. Aside from that, i love cars. What a feast for the the eyes that HubNut Social was. Talking about smoked rear lights and poverty spec, my dad had a '87 Opel Senator 2.0i ones. It had a 4 speed manual, manual yet tinted windows, cloth interior, power locks, power steering and front fog-lights. It was white with bleu interior. I've never seen a poverty spec Senator before or after that one.We loved that car to bits, though. Thouroughly cleaned the interior back to almost new condition, and we buffed the outside too. Shortky after, my dad traded it in for a younger Senator of the latest model, a 2.6i automatic with loads of goodies. Just no leather or aircon. Many years later, when my dad bought his BMW E39 535i, the Senator 2.6i was passed on to me. Also a lovely car when you apriciate comfort and long distance, high speed cruising. Oh, seems like i'm rambling now, sorry for that! I could go on and on about HubNutty cars, i've had a lot of those...

Brought a tear to my eye ! , the Fiat 131 Mirafiori sport in signal orange , another one of my oddball cars from the 80’s .. most of the construction road signs that disappeared off the M42 went into making inner sills and floor sections on that car, I’m sure if it’s still around, scrape the under seal off and it will say “Mud on the Road !” 😎 Nice Vid as usual 👍🏻

Great video...cars from before my time, my childhood, youth, and twenties. My dad used to restore Jaguars in the 60s, he had some beautiful cars: Triumph Spitfire White, Hillman Minx soft Grey, Volvo P1800 Cherry Red, Triumph Vitesse Yellow, MG Miget Teal Blue chrome bumpers 1973, MG B Black Bumpers colour BRG, MG B GT Saffron Yellow chrome, MGB GT V8 Purple. 2 and 3 litre Ford Capri' S models. He bought me a Hillman Californian in green for my first car back in 1976 I loved the lines of that little car. These a just a few over the decades I have fond memories. of. I was a lucky girl to ride in and drive some of these cars.

Volvo Estate, worked in high school at a local small Volvo dealer, fell in love with these cars, my job was cleaning the new and used cars up. It seemed to me these beautiful old Volvo’s were always owned by professors and teachers, so to my mind even today I see a Volvo I think well educated driver. We also sold Datsun’s, Fiats and Toyota’s. Loved the Fiat Spyder’s, but it seemed every time we washed one to get it out of the wash bay we had to call a mechanic in.

@@lesrogers7310 My Royale was a fantastic car. Loved the look it was a light metallic blue with dark blue interior. T registration so 1979.?.The fiat was amazingly reliable bulletproof engine. But the underside just dissolved to the point that you could push your fingers through it. Always fancied a monza. Did yours have the Digital Dashboard. Posh in those days

@lesrogers7310 5 жыл бұрын
bobs5050 Yes it did and very problematic it was too. I ended up changing the entire instrument cluster, which did at least solve the problem. I may be wrong but I think all of the GSE variants had the digi-dash. My Royale was gold with an almost gold-coloured (beige??) interior. Did your Royale suffer any issues with that hideous Solex 4A1 carburettor ? I converted mine to a twin-choke Weber setup which was a lot of work.

The blue Manta is an end-of-the-line GT/E Exclusive. The Exclusive models, by then just down to being based on the basic GT and top-line GT/E, got the Irmascher twin-headlight conversion and the headlight wash/wipe deleted, a few other Irmscher bits like leather-rim steering wheels and larger rear spoiler, metallic paint as standard and different interior trim and upholstery so none of the GM/Recaro seat plaid trim that was so famous during the '80s and which looked so much like the cloth used for baseball caps from a certain well-known company that were so popular with boy-racers in the '90s. The GT/E also got its alloy wheels painted in anthracite paint rather than the standard bare alloy/silver or white if you ordered one in white. The GT made do with its standard steel wheels, though I think they were also painted a darker grey than was standard on the pre-Exclusive cars. Unfortunately the late Mantas were noticeably less well-built than earlier cars so rust and careless owners have made them properly rare today. This car also proves that the Manta did outlive the Capri, just, with the last being E-reg, though apparently a few hung around in dealers long enough to get F-plates, whereas the last of the Capris were D-reg with some stragglers getting E-plates...
@saddoncarrs6963
@saddoncarrs6963 5 жыл бұрын
I was one of those careless owners. I bought a new GTE coupe in 84 and badly pranged it in 86. Totally my fault. In 1984 I seem to remember there were two specifications - GTE and lower spec Berlinetta. The body styles available were hatchback and coupe. I think the Irmscher was marketed a year or two later.
@gosportjamie
@gosportjamie 5 жыл бұрын
@@saddoncarrs6963 I think in '84 they had the GT/E, the Berlinetta and a lower-spec model that had steel wheels and the A-frame head rests, the car that became the GT but I can't remember what it was called then. I thought the i200 was introduced in '84 but I could be wrong, in any case it was a limited edition so there weren't many of them. Irmscher was Vauxhall/Opel's semi-in house tuning company, rather like AMG for Mercedes-Benz, they made parts from body up-grades like the twin-headlight kits right up to special engines and gearboxes for some models, like the 3.6 litre, 24v engine for the Senator and Monza before Vauxhall/Opel had the factory 3.0 24v in the next-generation egg crate grille Senator...

This episode brought back a few memories from my childhood. The only time I've seen an Amphicar in the flesh was at the age of 6 or 7 when we were holidaying in the Lake District. As we were walking through some town (might have been Coniston), this funny looking red car went past us, and as I looked back at it, saw that it had a pair of propellers! Have loved those cars ever since. Later, my dad drove a Consul Classic, a huge car by British standards at the time (or was that because I was still small) but unfortunately one that I was far too young to drive. A few years later when I was old enough to drive my dads Mk2 Cortina (on its last legs, top speed about 60 if you didn't mind the noise), the bloke in the garage opposite had an immaculate red Consul Capri. Have also loved those cars ever since. One thing I still can't understand. When my dad owned crappy old bangers like a 1950's Ford Popular or the Classic, we'd go across country or to Scotland for our summer holidays (we live in Yorkshire), but when he started buying far better and newer cars, we just went a few miles up the coast!

That Fiat Miafiori in orange is a rare sight! They rusted away. When I worked at a scrapyard in the late 80s, I remember a Fiat just like that one, it was so rusty that when a chain was put through the door openings to lift it by the roof, (same way all cars were craned and moved round the yard,) as the crane started to lift the car up, it completely collapsed as the windscreen pillars just snapped, due to rust! It looked like a broken Matchbox toy!

I was lucky to work for British Leyland, Renault, and Fiat as a young man but I haven’t seem an R5 or R16 since the 1970’s! One place I've lived in the US since I moved over here has an interesting US equivalent to that Land Rover firefighting vehicle, specifically for bush-fire and forest-fire fighting -- a purpose-built HumVee fire truck. Every time there's a fire call, it seems there's a mad rush of all the volunteer firefighters to the station just to be the ones who get to drive the HumVee rather than one of the larger ladder or tanker trucks.

Nice one Ian. When you got to the DeLorean and said "this must be a nightmare of a car to have in a museum, because any fingerprints..." Yes. I mentioned that I worked there for a season a couple of years ago. Well, I had to carry a damp cloth everywhere to remove fingerprints - the DeLorean was like a magnet for people wanting to run their hands over the brushed stainless....

Great to meet you Ian, did get a few blank looks asking people if they were Hubnutters! DeLorean is a Wooler Hodec conversion, of of about 10, and maybe a dozen factory rhd. Sd1 is a twin plenum, you can tell from outside, but it involves lying on the floor to look for the fuel tank and pump guards. Most seem to have fancy reg numbers as they were registered to dealer principles I think, before being sold on. The 825 you test drove was also on an OE plate so may well be a factory car like my sd1. Great video, some great cars too, loved the Imp with it's Bluemel number plates and the Starlet. You're all welcome again, next event like that is in September, by which point I might have calmed down!

Really enjoyed the day here. It was great to speak to you hubnut sir. Which I'd of been directed to the correct parking, but took your advise and approached they nice cap for a discount voucher for the museum. I saw and spoke to an amazing couple who owned an 1100 rustic brown Allegro. Was a great day, thank you!

Glad I'm not the only one going around watching 2cv's at car shows/museums, where a 2cv is not exactly the most rare thing you'll see. Reason they have the door open on the other side is that it won't stay open and is held by a stick :D. "Gorgeous little Imp". Yup. Game of Thrones has begun again. Alfa Romeo 156 is also hopeless when it comes to turning circle. It's actually ridiculous. I just adore the 16. One of the prettiest cars I know. So classy. 37:57: There's no excuse for landsail! I do like those hubcaps. Hi pretty kitty!
