The shoppers of Swansea were treated to a display of classic cars on Sunday 16th June. Riley RMs, a Toyota Hilux and an Austin Heavy 12/4 that we'll be driving soon were amongst the cars on display. Join us for a walkaround and some classic car facts on the fly!

I can never understand how some Vivas somehow managed to survive four or five decades. My first car, a 1969 Viva HB 1600 OHC, had huge rust holes in the tyre arches by 1976! Memories of chicken wire and plastic padding body repairs...

Hi Ian just a quick note on the MGB GT V8. The chrome bumper V8 is the most common one, I think the production figures are something like 1856 chrome bumper and 735 rubber bumper. Of the latter, some have been converted to chrome bumper so a rubber bumper factory V8 which hasn't been altered is by far the rarest of the two. You can easily tell if a car started as rubber bumper as the chassis number will start GD2D1-2xxx. Sorry to sound nerdy but I used to own a V8 and can remember looking up the figures. Keep up the good work!

What a Great show!!! At some point you see a young woman with a walking stick and so it gives people who normally can't travel much the chance of seeing a classic car/s and even children who normally woujldn't get the chance and get them excited about classic cars so to preserve these pieces of history... Also great variety too!

It would be great to see more of these type of events where the general public get a chance to see vehicles from yester week or decade or even century, it might just spark more interest in the younger generations who have no idea of the older vehicle scene and maybe decide to get involved. I saw an XK8 the other day. Not particularly rare, you may think, but it was on Dutch plates. Turning into Morrisons. Other recent sightings: a 1968/69 Pontiac filling up in the petro station, and a yellow Mk 3 Cortina with lowered suspension and what sounded suspiciously like a V8 under the bonnet 🤔

I worked at a MOT station in Swindon and I MOTed most of the Ice cream vans most of which were old Bedfords as the tax was cheep. IF it came in on a "working" day and passed we all got a 99 but to MOT it you spent 30 mins under it with the engine running and a second prop shaft spinning to run the mister whippy ice cream machine equipment at 1500 rpm and that prop shaft 2 inches from your head...its no wonder I have a bald spot now! Now Ive moved to Devon we just get a Hockings Land Rover Ice Cream van in the yard, now that would be a test drive when your down the Ho!

Hi Hubnut. On the Vanguard/TR engine vs the Fergie tractor engine, I'm not sure whether one came before the other, though the starting point for both was at much the same time. Obviously they're not identical, a the cylinder block for the Fergie is part of the tractor's structure. That aside, pretty nearly everything else interchanges. That includes pistons, sleeves, cylinder head, and more. My Vanguard is running a Fergie water pump. Cheers.

That Ural is an interesting point is that the sidebar wheel is driven of the rear wheel of the motorcycle there is an axle going from the rear wheel of the motorcycle to the rear wheel of the sidebar also l have on mention that 1980s Toyota Hilux a lot of work and money has gone into that in Australia they are not that common but there is one not far from were l live and it also a 4X4 l have seen a couple rear wheel drive utes around and a great variety of classic and modern classic cars and l did like the classic Bedford ice cream van an appropriate ice cream van to have at a classic car and motorcycle show although the Ural wouldn't be a classic motorcycle yet although it looks like one sell them in Australia not very common
