Pretty sure that thing feels quite a bit different, because it doesn't really react to your body, but the tilt is purely mechanical and based on detecting g-forces, with a delay, too. It might even feel weirder to a motorcyclist, because of that "disconnect", than to someone who's never driven either vehicles.

"Hey, I've found these old tilt rams from a scrap Advanced Passenger Train in a skip. What shall we do with them?" Carver: "I have an idea." It seems odd to a car driver but it's mimicking what a motorbike rider would naturally do on a two-wheel machine. Those three-wheel bikes with two wheels at the front (Piaggio?) that are so popular in Paris seem to do something very similar.

@another39974 жыл бұрын
Yes, it's a trike because it has three wheels, but I don't know of any other cars that behave like a motorcycle when you turn in to a bend. You wouldn't say most three-wheelers behave like a cross between car and bike. Those three wheeler 'scooters' come at it from the other end. A motorbike with more front end stability courtesy of an extra front wheel and a tilting mechanism and can usually be driven with just a car licence. I have got to try one of these Carver beasties... looks like sooooo much fun.

@Uncle Joe S (from Craig, borrowing his wife's computer) Watching things from afar (State-side), I sure hope you folks get some rain soon! My Mom and I lived in Canberra, ca. 1974-76, where I attended Lyneham High for 5th/6th Forms. I recall a few small bush-fires in the area; in particular one which burned about 100 hectares on a farm just north of the old O'connor rubbish tip--in an area which I'd guess would be North Lyneham now. Certainly nothing like the monster fires you're seeing now...seems Canberra has vastly expanded since we lived there--many new suburbs added; when I was there, Wanniassa, O'malley, and Crace were new, anticipating a large influx of gov't workers, I think. Like andy g, I wish we could shift some of the excessive rains which have fallen in our Pacific Northwest, or Southeast coastal regions, down your way. Take care, and Happy New Year!

I used to ride motorcycles and I am used to having the bike respond predictably when cornering. That thing is scary and seems rather unstable. I did give my sister a ride, once, and when I went into a corner hard she panicked when she saw the road so close to her and tried to sit up. Fortunately I was a skilled rider and maintained control, though for a moment, that bike wasn't entirely under my control. Makes me wonder if the Carver isn't something like that. It really looks wobbly and a bit scary. Not sure I would want to drive it but it would definitely be an experience .

If you've never ridden a motorbike or a trike, then a persons first impression of this is ''what the hell?'' Beginners will fear tipping the thing over when it leans. Folk that ride sportsbikes (or experienced riders in general) will automatically lean into the corner, the bike leaning left or right, and our heads leaning in the opposite direction (so the 'horizon' is always straight/level). It takes getting used to, but I guarantee, 100%, that if you stuck with this, you'd be flying into corners like a superbike rider. Only downside is you cannot open the door to ''get your knee down''!. With the roof off, I'd be inclined to wear my crash helmet though. The rear seat/foot arrangement would not bother most bike folk, as pillions are used to cramp leg positions and being hard up against the rear of the pilot. (just ask anyone who has sat behind a rider and bumped helmets on a regular basis). Looks like a hoot, and I'd not hesitate in taking it on some twisty windy B roads and wringing the buggers neck. The only thing I would re-engineer, is the gear shift, so it could be a paddle system on the wheel. That way, you might be able to remove both doors for a better riding experience.

This video would have really benefited from some external shots of Ian cornering in the Carver. Yeah, I know Ian doesn't like 'drive-by' shots, but the Carver is certainly a vehicle that would be cool to see in motion, leaning left and right. It would also be interesting to know if Ian has ridden motorcycles (don't remember him mentioning...) because I think the leaning he found bizzare would be very familiar and comfortable to a motorcyclist.

@davejackson36904 жыл бұрын
That is about the only way you can get into trouble with a Carver, its the force you apply to the steering that denotes how aggressively it leans so applying opposite lock in a rear end slide will flip it onto its side as it throws its weight over the wrong way.
