The power steering cooler pipe gets a bit spurty. I plan to bodge my way around it when I get a chance. Also contains some cycling.

If your bodge with the tape doesn't fix the leaky roof, as a permanent suggestion may I recommend shed roofing felt, pull it tight and nail it down. Everyone will think it's a vinyl roof. Thank me later. :)

as for the cooling loop, if you find where the leak is just take out that inch or 2 of pipe, then if you fit a longer bit of rubber pipe with lots of overhang, then it wont have anywhere to blow off to, if that makes sense, rather than cut a lot of the loop away

You need a LWB Transit (or Sherpa etc), then you could keep the Invacar and the 2CV inside the van. Might be tricky getting a 3-wheeler up a pair of ramps though... Maybe a flat-bed with a Hi-ab crane to lift them on!

Firstly it was great to meet you at the NEC resto show, if i were you your two keepers are Ellie and Twk. Then well the Dacia is co owned so that is probably happy if you go wondering around. Then well you could probably do with a fleet update video but i would get rid of all but one of your modern cars so you have something to just jump into between trips. The fox on one hand you have done alot of work on it but you haven't had a good play in it yet so it probably needs finishing before you decide on that one. Perhaps a fleet update/ what should go video is in order to aid your decision if you want to do that? as always keep up the good work and i like the format its very honest so many others making things too glossy, its youtube not netflix. yours Patrick Porthmadog

I have discovered Mazdas are fine whilst they are just that. Once they start going downhill they just seem to snowball. My 6 diesel (yes I know before you all start) just irritated me in the way it contaminated its oil with silly amounts of diesel. Not satisfied with this it decided to shat its turbo. Being pre 2009 and euro 4 it is now minus it’s DPF (cheers Mazda for pathetic regen system) and has a new turbo ( HOOJ shout out to RECOTURBO of Doncaster for like new rebuild) and has an EGR delete and mild remap. It behaves now as it should but never buy a 2.2 diesel as they are utter garbage. Hope the Rover 800 proves somewhat more satisfying Ian.

@gosportjamie
@gosportjamie 5 жыл бұрын
@@bencrosbie A lot of older cars with DMFs can be converted back to a solid flywheel. A number of good clutch companies make kits for most of them. It still ends up costing about the same as a clutch change and new DMF the first time, but you'll probably never have to change the flywheel again, and you'll probably find that your starter motors last longer as a lot of cars with DMFs seem to like eating starters. It's nice to hear you're keeping it, often a well cared for car with loads of miles is a much better bet than one with a lot less recorded miles and no or a patchy history...

I owned one of these, same colour. I bought it for about £400, and wish I hadn't sold it for £600 to an Indian lad whom was sick of his Jazz... Mine was lovely. Me and my gal were a two Mazda Family at the time and didn't need to be, our 02 plate Auto in baddass black was suffice, so we thought... shortly after the transaction took place, a Glasgow bus twatted the side of our pnly Mazda in... And it was a write off... We were intercoursed. What followed was am M plate Fiat Tipo... the substantially lesser joys of motoring ensued. But, it served me well. It went on to have a sticky end that could have killed my parents, luckily didn't...

I had the one after, not as attractive but good cars. I love yours even if nobody else does lol. Also there are too many hipsters polishing their videos and making them like the grand tour, or fancy 4k, I love yours because they are off the cuff magic. Yes, it looks like the power steering cooler loop has failed and is now squirting pressurised, hot power steering fluid out of the air intake. That style of cooler, with the looped metal pipe, is renowned for failing in that manner, either due to corrosion, which looks to be that case here, or due to metal fatigue from vibrations causing the pipes to fracture near the mounting points. I really do strongly recommend that anybody who has a vehicle with this type of cooler that is over 10 years old strongly considers replacing it with a small, radiator-type cooler mounted on isolators as, when the cooler fails, it can result in failure or even seizure of the power steering pump and also terminal damage to the steering gear which can easily write an older vehicle off due to the price of the parts (you probably won't be able to use the old pump and steering gear as core units for exchange as they are very likely to have damage to the castings that would be re-used in reconditioned parts...) Suitable replacement coolers are easily available and not expensive, and an ounce of prevention is better than a ton of cure. Oh, and if you have a vehicle with EPAS you don't want to know how much a power steering cooler failure could cost as it frequently kills electronic components too so...

So you can take it to the supermarket and when people open their doors on it, it doesn't get dented. If you ignore the fact that, it has probably the worst gearbox in history, running over anything larger than a postage stamp is enough to shove your spine out through the top of your head, and it has no crumple zones, it is a wonderfully awful car. For me the last REAL Rover was the P6, with my favourite being the P5b, even the SD1 didn't have the class of the earlier cars (another old Boss had a P4, that was a classy old girl) Anyway trim the fleet to: 2cv (I don't like em but you do) Invacar (its an important historic icon-good or bad?) Fox (enough spannering to keep us entertained for a while) Spend the time you save driving other peoples cars.....(hopefully little old Fiats!)

I keep enjoying vicariously your adventures with shite cars. Keep up the good work! One of the best cars I owned was a 15 year old Primera 1.6. Cost peanuts to run, depreciated 100 quid a year and only needed a fuel pump and dizzy in 75,000 miles.

I have a soft spot for older Japanese cars and hence like the Mazda. I'll be sorry to see it go. That's just my weakness. I so want to see it's problems sorted. With 30,000 subscribers and hence potential viewers for each video it only takes 10% of that figure to make a comment and you've 3,000 comments to read! The price of success I guess. The other side of that particular coin is that I've heard it said of the KZbin Comments section is that it consists 90% the sum total of human stupidity condensed. So you've only now got 300 worthwhile comments to read based on the above estimates. The hard part is reading the total to get those worthwhile ones! Good luck with that one Ian. If someone takes the Mazda off your hands and sorts it please make a follow up video to that and drive her post "sorted" and explaining what was wrong and how she was fixed.

I agree with you on your comment about publishing material on social media and making comments, there’s always somebody there somewhere to correct you, sometimes quite rightly if what you said is erroneous. Did you sell the Mazda then and get your money back?

Hi Hubnut, just thinking if I had a Mazda jumper would the sunroof leak? oh and on the subject of hitting sheep 🐑 or ramblers do you not get points for both? I’ll leave that up to you, keep up the great work markUK

If you're going to take it on a track, make sure it's not going to puke oils everywhere - you will not be popular if you make the track unexpectedly slippery!

Car problems = more content for HubNut. Woes for Ian means joy for us. It's all good. I now claim the prize for today's most selfish comment on KZbin.

I had a 323f ZXi (with the 2.0 V6) for a couple of years and it broke down on me once; rear shock top mount corroded and collapsed. Was a fantastic, reliable car with a good community behind them. Easy to work on too. Miss it now, was a bit of a sleeper, but the ol' rust monster got the better of it. Leaking sunroof might be blocked drain (as mine had), especially the front drain holes. There's a little 's' bend in the pipe down behind the wheel arch that jams up with gunk.

going to be fun to see later on what car is in the garage atm its the fox but later on it'll be? "for sale, one mazda 323f, has light damage on the side of doors nothing a bit of internet hunting for wleder or going to a class with new to welding and letting them pratice on something, high idles but just put some wire on the fuse and that fixes it ish, leaky sun roof but has been gaffer taped up, has 1 reliable feature and that is the hub nut sticker it will not fall off if washed," just clear the part were the mazda is up a bit more boom room for one more car, that or tidy the garage might get more room in there for hell another car, oooh yer leakin' something, the mighty cheapo mazda is wounded, not a good buy no, even with it doorless pillers and gash in the doors, fleet update: new rover looks great but breaks are in need of help, junka sorry mazda is having trouble keeping power stearing fuild in, fox is running but there's a lot more to do, invacar twc works with new belts and pully great! 2cv works but has problems in traffic don't we all, blue thing i brought new and then gave away/sold that is now back with me just does what a car should do, work and be cheap n cheerful,

Damn I hate mazdas, I'd rather drive a Chinese car, most unreliable crap I have ever been around. Engine is decent, everything else that falls apart

Oh dear! Poor Mazda. I always wanted one of those but maybe not now. 😁 I've had my fair share of bangers over the years and alot go wrong with them. Saying that the last car I had was a X reg Honda civic. Had it for four years and nothing at all went wrong with that. It was bullet proof but a complete shed at the same time. 👍

Track days are really really hard on cars, the chances of you driving home in it after are slim. Don't take anything in the comments to heart, some of us boring old gits wouldn't have anything to type if it wasn't for correcting you 😀.

Shame the Mazda isn't playing ball. Some cars have either simply have had a hard life or are at the end of their journey and either need scrapping or fully restoring.

You will probably find the pas cooler loop is on the low pressure side (best check that) so a rubber hose (fuel or Similar) will be fine. It won’t work on the HP side.

Poor Mazda, I think it's had so little love in its life that it's come to the conclusion that braking something is the only way to get any love and attention, you know like a child who pays up and misbehaves to get attention. But defo have fun on the track, then she can move on, who knows you both may really enjoy it.
