“THREE AND A HALF HOURS” ??? I’m seven hours in and it says I’m at 62% done. [EDIT: Took me over 11 hours to beat!] Wow - I’m guessing that I sought out and found more hidden nooks and crannies than you. I’m also playing on the hardest difficulty setting (recommended), so maybe I’m simply dealing with more enemies than you did? 🤔 The graphical clarity doesn’t come close to RED MATTER 2, and should not be thought of as similar. [EDIT: HUBRIS defaults to a blurry setting! Go to settings and find a slider under “Visuals” that lets you sharpen the image. 😮] I’m obviously not done yet, but I gotta say I’m having a lot of fun. The lack of feet never once bothered me, so the fact that you cite it at all - much less as a review modifier - is baffling to me. I’ve found plenty of jank that I’m shocked you didn’t touch upon… the climbing is sketchball and when leaping for a ledge I’m just as likely to pull fruit out of my backpack while falling to my death. Placing materials in the recyclers can be frustrating as well when pulling them from your backpack menu (I’ve since learned that pulling items directly from over your shoulder is a smoother process). There were a couple of times when I got stuck in the environment and had to reload, but the autosaves are frequent so I was never sent too far back. I also didn’t recall the game ever mentioning any way of swapping weapon types, so after I bought the shotgun (which I’m terrible with) it seemed like I couldn’t get my pistol back until I had gathered enough to upgrade again at a gun station. This led to multiple deaths due to my incompetence, but I eventually checked the controller layout and learned how to swap. Still, I can’t be the only one that wrestled with this. Also, using two hands on your pistol instantly gives you a laser dot that effectively turns it into a sniping weapon - again, something I never heard mentioned and just stumbled into. The iron sights already work great, but the laser dot is welcome. Even though I don’t know how the remainder of the game is, and jank aside, it’s pretty nicely priced, and I’d say it’s a must-buy on PSVR2.

A could've would've should've impression of this game for me would've had this at a 7.8-8. If you're saying it's a 6.8 i think I'd be disappointed. 30 quid is still 30 quid. Are the effects of reprojection in this worse than RE Village and Horizon?
@GAMERTAGVR
@GAMERTAGVR Жыл бұрын
No the reprojection is fine
@CHROME-COLOSSUS
@CHROME-COLOSSUS Жыл бұрын
I had heard that the reprojection was rough on this game, but it’s nowhere near as bad as CotM. I’m not super-sensitive to it, so your mileage may vary. I wonder if smooth-movement speeds make it more or less noticeable… I’ve got it set a bit below the highest turning speed, and the top movement speed (controller-based, not head-based). It’s a bit blurry. I’m acclimating to it, but my last game was RED MATTER 2, so every other game looks blurry by comparison. 😂 A really fun shooter, though. This game throws a lot of variety into the mix… a bit of jumping platforming, janky climbing, satisfying swimming, combat, and some light environmental puzzling. EDIT: There’s a setting in “VISUALS” that lets you sharpen the image, which is - maddeningly - defaulted to blurry. 😂

If you want sharp, play RED MATTER 2. No other title on all of PSVR2 comes close. HUBRIS is a bit blurry (not as sharp as S&S), but after a bit you get used to it and the game is quite enjoyable. Art design is excellent, but the softness undercuts it somewhat. It’s the gameplay that makes this good.

The upcoming update news is old. Sony have been updating PSVR2 since launch to improve the software and they will continue to do so. The developer said an update is coming but we don’t know when, he doesn’t know. I’m still wondering why he said it. Maybe he was trying to push any potential kickback from using reprojection to Sony OR it’s a nice little headline for channels to share about the game potentially leading to more interest. Either way, seems like bullshit. I didn’t fall for it and of course Sony are updating PSVR2 throughout its lifecycle. Besides the reprojection is fine. Would I like native instead though. 100%

I promise you 30 is not steep for this. It’s nowhere close to being as pretty as RED MATTER 2 (and is quite blurry by comparison), but the art design is solid. While it has a few rough edges, so far I’ve been deeply impressed by the range of gameplay it delivers. I’ve got the difficulty set to high, and it has felt nicely challenging. I’m not someone that rushes through a game I’m enjoying, so I’m constantly exploring and this game rewards you by cleverly hiding a lot of raw upgrade materials in hidden corners. This means I’m moving more slowly than this reviewer (clearly), but I’m already logged at twice the length that he says it takes to complete - and it says I’m 62% done. Even with its jank and blurriness, I feel that this one is easily a must-buy at this price. I’m rather baffled the KZbin reviewers are so all-over-the-place.

Even if you don't enjoy the story, please don't some up stories like that again.some of us enjoy them no matter how weak they may be. Actually, i just stopped the review half way through. There are ways to REVIEW a game without revealing certain details just because you want to crap on them. Save that for like a seperate opinion filled rant video or a deeper dive video. Jake baldino, ACG, and even angry joe do this very well in their videos and offer companion videos for that.

At the 1 minute mark, you start giving more information about the story that we can get in game, I'm not sure how much info you end up giving as I fast forward through that part. I watch quite a bit of reviews and tend to avoid the ones where the reviewers start giving too much info. One of the worst at this is angry joe. He can't review a game or movie without revealing way too much about the plot even in his spoiler free reviews. There are Guys who cover story elements without giving away info, like ACG, skill up, and Jake Baldino. Copying their format for reviewing games is not a bad place to start at all.

This is will probably still be a game I’ll skip. For some reason the games with the best graphics tend to be stupidly boring to me (an example I have that I had similarly thoughts to as you did to this game is Tom Raider 2013), although that might just be a bias towards cartoony styled games and indie games (as I’ve probably shown a LOT). To be fair to the game and devs though, I’m glad they’re trying to fix the game though.
@CHROME-COLOSSUS
@CHROME-COLOSSUS Жыл бұрын
Not boring, this one. Set difficulty to high. HUBRIS mixes a variety of gameplay, constantly switching it up. Sometimes the enemies are so numerous that your head’s on a swivel and your ears are open. I’m not one to normally play games on anything but normal, but I heard it recommended to crank it on this title. I can’t imagine enjoying it as much on a lower setting. Far from boring, I’d say. Frankly I had thought I was gonna be wowed by the graphics, not the game. The opposite is true - the graphics are a bit blurry but the art direction is sound. I was a bit underwhelmed at first. The sight of planets out a spaceship window had nothing like the impact of RED MATTER’s opening near Saturn. But the game is FUN, and that’s been my biggest takeaway so far.

If you check in Settings, there’s something called “VISUALS” or similar that has a slider for clarity. Slide that fucker all the way up and you’ll enjoy a small but noticeable upgrade in the image quality! Really weird choice. 😂 Also strange how much hate this game gets. There are people who seem bent on steering others away from this cool little title. It gets better as you go, too… I felt satisfied at the end (I think it took me shy of eleven hours, but I explored for every hidden cache). Incidentally, if you get stuck on the area with the force field domes, try backtracking. That area is fun, but confusing. Also, the game is probably best on highest difficulty.

@@julien2231 - I quite enjoyed CotM (and played all the way through it), but the cost was inflated, even if you got the bundle. Even though I’m still not finished playing HUBRIS, I can easily say that it delivers a gameplay experience that matches it. The climbing in HUBRIS is not as good as in CotM, but it also doesn’t baby-slow time when you jump to catch a ledge. The swimming is superb, though. There’s also full movement agency when in battle, not some dumb baby-strafing circle. I haven’t encountered any large boss in HUBRIS, but the enemies sometimes are great enough in number that you have to keep your ears open and your head on a swivel (at least in the highest difficulty). The aiming is perfect, with iron sights that work and a friendly laser dot that appears when you two-hand it. The graphics of both are excellent, but a bit blurry further away. CotM has more visual complexity, but it has far worse reprojection issues. HUBRIS has some outstanding environmental design and delivers more variety. CotM has the appearance of bigger vistas, but HUBRIS lets you explore larger areas of what you can see, and includes many hidden areas that let you hoard extra junk to level up your weapons. I don’t at all mean to dismiss CotM, so don’t think that’s what I’m doing. I think it’s an underrated title and that most people that are disparaging about it have not actually completed it. But HUBRIS is easily as much fun, it’s far more consistently fun, and it offers plenty of cool sights that rival any feelings of awe I ever got in CotM - but at a fraction of the cost.

Red Matter 2 is absolutely bananas. Doing the electrical circuit puzzle was surreal. I know there are bigger wow moments in the game. However, there was something about doing one of those puzzles, as I have done countless times in other games before, but doing it as if you're really there, that made me feel a certain way. I can't explain it. I'm brand new to VR, but have been playing video games since Atari. Got a PSVR2 for Father's Day. It's wild shit. I thought it was more of a novelty. It is NOT.

Great review, GT! I really wanted to like hubris, but the visuals are my only big takeaways. I really want a better baseline for combat in a VR game where the enemies are aggressive, intelligent, and do significant damage in a fair way such that you really have to struggle to survive. Most of these AI are too much like window dressing and something to do between important plot points, not an experience of their own accord.

The game is really good. I haven’t finished it yet (7 hrs in at 62%), but a dumb story beat like that isn’t something you’ll likely care about. Honestly I’ve barely paid attention to the dialogue because I’m usually distracted by other things. I think there’s enough jank and blurriness that a 9 seems high to me, but wow do I recommend this game. I’m easily enjoying it as much as (or more than) HORIZON CotM, but at a much cheaper price. I hate to think people who enjoy shooters, adventures, or sci-fi would give this title a pass. It’s solid.

Don’t know about you, but I find the combat in these types of games a little dumbed down, Red Matter 2 felt the same, the environments and all the technical stuff is well executed and looks stunning and then the combat feels like you’re up against manakins, you really feel like you’re in danger, might just be me

🤔 Farpoint back in the day was amazing but not sure how it would stack up now. The story of Farpoint was a massive pull for me. That a tough one. This is an ok game. Farpoint in 2018/19 was a brilliant game

@@GAMERTAGVR oof. That says it all. Yeah, Farpoint back when it first released was really something. Probably the only game that drew me in so much I finished it without getting distracted by any other other game.
