Hudl 7 inch tablet. (the great reset problem in 2021) how to solve

Thank you! I had to be quick as the date/time changed back while I was watching your video for the next steps... went back, did those steps again and working! Had tried to fix my mother-in-law's Hudl as it was clogged up with junk and then it just stopped working.

The issue first occurred in 2019 but after media pressure tesco rectified it only for the issue to return in 2020, I fear that eventually tesco will close the activation server completely so that even the date and time work around fails, the over the air update server has already been turned off. Tesco's answer this time has been to simply state that support has ended and offer anyone that complains a £20 voucher, but that doesn't stop perfectly functional tablets being rendered E waste. The hudl 2 is also affected by this issue, i have searched for a while trying to find a newer non tesco rom but the only success i've read was a guy that managed to get windows 10 to boot. (hudl 2 is intel atom/baytrail x64 based with 2 gb ram) on the hudl 2 you hold the ' key to get the keyboard menu. the hudl 1 however does have a new rom available that negates this issue getting a custom recovery looks difficult if non impossible, tesco have implemented signed ota updates so without a custom recovery or a way to sign a rom we are stuck.

Only option at that point would be either custom firmware and software or eeprom chip change with other software installed.... The latter of those options requires microsoldering and knowledge of what chip stores the operating system and security parameters

@@Xclub40X standard DIY Android upgrade techniques apparently do not work on the hudl 2 it is an Intel x86/x64 device. The recovery system, bios (fastboot uefi lockouts) and bootloader etc are set up to only accept Tesco signed updates. A guy on a forum I found had managed to install windows 10 but a of yet I have not seen a custom Android update, not even from lineage OS, Cyanogen mod or any of the larger development projects.

How do you update the tablet after reset? Right now I can’t use anything and when I click update on Google play, it says connection error.

I'll need to check this one pal.... Cheers for the heads up... Potentially installing Google play from a separate apk download might work.... Let me get to this at a some point and re-do the whole thing and see what's changed

I assume that's probably why my utube won't let me update the app claiming there's no update app available due to age of device. Which is Bull Crap. The rest of it manages to connect up to WiFi and tether from phone.
