Yeah this was a fair bit better than I initially expected. Very well produced and composed, the high energy and eclectic mix of styles made it continuously engaging, but never overwhelming. Side note: I wonder how HudMo feels with this album seeing universal acclaim and an older song of his going viral just a few days apart

OIIIII LETS GOOO TOMMY MATE!!! Spitting some mighty facts as always, I’m happy you enjoyed this album! So much charm exudes from this album I bloody love it! It feels intrepid with its fulminating production techniques. Madders, mate! 👏👏

So happy you reviewed it! HudMo has long been one of my favorite producers. Though, I always felt like he lacked that signature project which I could point someone to who was trying to get into him, until now. Cry Sugar is the perfect Hudson Mohawke project which perfects his sound while also pushing him into new territory. Like you said, it has several moments which should come off a distasteful, yet it’s so endearing and it draws me in on repeat listens. It shouldn’t work, but it does. It’s one of my favorite LPs of the year!

Yay, you finally reviewed this album!!! This album is pretty much very great across the board. I will admit that hyperpop isn't really a genre of EDM I typically listen to on a super frequent basis or anything, but this has to be among my favorite projects in this style in recent memory. What I love about it is that it feels like there are so many different ideas explored on this album without feeling like a mess, and there are a bunch of standouts on top of that. My favorite track has to be Rain Shadow without a doubt. It just sounds very stellar with these beautiful arpeggios. Excellent album to be sure! Easily one of the my favorite albums of 2022, probably in my top 20!

I gotta say I did not expect this album to blow up so much, when I got the Bandcamp notification (from Warp Records) I thought it'd be another boring instrumental hip-hop release. I'll have to check it out.

Yet another great review with interesting commentary and insight! Also it would be cool if you could review Profound Mysteries II since you talked about the first one... But regardless, have a good day (or night)!

think I'm going to cover Profound Mysteries II & III in the same video when the latter comes out. got a lot on my plate atm and I don't think they'd give me enough to say for two separate dedicated videos lol

Tommy, apparently the deluxe version of mercurial world by Magdalena Bay is coming out soon, might be a good opportunity to cover them. Also naked flames released anew album recently. Thought you might be interested in that.

I’ll be real, from the first 4 tracks I was really worried I’d just be underwhelmed by this project. Didn’t really like Intentions at all, Behold was generic and both Ingle Nook and Expo felt like unnecessary filler. Thankfully the album really picked up after this, I liked pretty much every track, even Bow and KPIPE which are absolutely absurd but work for me! Right now I’m thinking an 8/10 but if those first 4 tracks click, it could be even higher and possibly make my year end best albums list!

So far, for me, album of the year is between this and Brainwaltzera's ITSAME. Hope for more good stuff in 2022 though.

oh come on same thing lmao (yes I know they're two different genres & gabber came first but the kicks are the same. like calling a jungle track drum'n'bass)

Mr Wonky Angle, I’ve got a rather cheeky album you should check out! It came out a couple days ago (from writing this comment), it’s called Cat Planets In A Loop by Tomasz Bednarczyk. A very cohesive Berlin school record with some serene soundscapes, thought you’d dig it n all . Cheers!

If you timed the tracks playing in the background to coincide with the ones your talking about, it would up your review game for sure.

HudMo is one of a handful of producers that I have a tendency to acknowledge rather than complete enjoy their talent... the amount of different styles he covers is absolutely insane, this pushing even further than he previously explored. This album like his previous solo efforts is extremely hit and miss, and the lack of cohesion is even more extreme than before. When it hits, it's a home run... when it misses, it's a strikeout on a wild pitch. I like Butter and Lantern better than this.
@HD-cp1fg2 жыл бұрын
Check Polyfolk dance or something EP, pinnacle of his style imo. It's kinda sad to me that since then his music become more predictable, then it was like Aphex gone beats.
