I LOOOVE the way he plays. His use of dynamics is amazing. Also, I love how he hits cymbals... it looks like he's bitch slapping them all.

I've been to several drum clinics. Two drummers stand out in my memory. Terry Bozzio and Dom Famularo. Dom has incredible energy and double-bass chops. So spontaneous and fun to watch. Bozzio was not what I expected. Very mature and articulate and approachable. Not what I expected after seeing his Zappa and Missing Persons performances. Time changes all of us....

Some people can do that and some not..he just couldn't play what he plays if he would play as Neil peart, all tense and robotic almost lifeless. Give this kind of performance, with all the energy and heart a person has, every day of the week over a mechanical and quiet performer...if they are good both obviously. This is true human being energy being expressed without thinking im looking cool? im looking too crazy? what people like tjdrummer, who tend to save expression will say about me? ...
@Gretschdrums7511 жыл бұрын
I have met him before in the late 80's. I watched him smoke Billy Cobham at a clinic too. He is a really nice guy and is a motivational speaker. He played more drums when I saw him. This doesn't really give you a good picture of how good he is. He is doing more cymbals and dynamic stuff is this video. He was the double bass drum king before Virgil, Lang, and others.

did you ever stop to think that maybe he is just fooling around in some part of his entire show???, if you judge him just for a 3 minute video...well... And of course he will do some exhibitionism, he is a clinician and ALL of them do that

Wow! For anyone who has had the pleasure of meeting him it is so easy to see that his drumming really is quite the expression of himself as a person! Full of energy, OOBER-positive, and totally a class act! Loved watching this and I hope people realize the success this man has had as an educator and inspiration to so many! -Zac Sullivan

Whoever filmed this did Dom a disservice at key moments in his playing the camera goes to wide shots infront of his kit I mean for real please show what this brilliant man is doing....the guy is pouring skill all over this set of drums only to have it wasted by not letting us the viewers see the magic of his performance....I know Im sounding critical but its only because Im a big fan of Doms and when we are lucky enough to hear him playing the attention of the damned camera should be on NOTHING else but well him....ok rant over...

FUCK A DUCK!!! so nice to see a drum solo a bit different!
@jeffdownfield145510 жыл бұрын
Brilliant solo and aggressive style. For you guys who suggest this solo is boring...... there's more to drums than just playing 100 miles per hour over top double bass drums pounding out 32nd notes. A drum set is an elaborate musical instrument capable of hundreds of musical voices and endless possibilities provided, the player has the imagination and talent. Dom Famularo is a gifted player.
@satopsycho21526 жыл бұрын

if this solo was played by an 18 year old from france or italy, nobody would have cared. everyone knows name, country, money and theatre count more than substance.
@DrumsOfWar845 жыл бұрын
I totally agree. I'm shocked that there is 200+ dislikes. This is next level shit. Even that pause in the beginning he did. That shit was on time. Tell me what drummer can do that? And so flawlessly... and I havent even mentioned about those upper cuts he does with those chinas. I'm working on incorporating that shit on my playing because of him. He's a beast!

@whateverman66610 жыл бұрын
Back in the 80s, I remember going to a Billy Cobham clinic with another drummer opening for him I'd never heard of. It was Dom, who started with a metronome and a practice pad. Behind him was Billy's dbl bass kit with the toms "out of order", and we were thinking "WTF, get this practice pad playing wanker outta here". In only a few minutes, Dom had the whole skeptical crowd standing on their feet clapping and cheering him on. Billy, by contrast, was a let down. While this vid isn't one of my favorites, Dom is absolutely amazing, and a must see...
