R Class 4-6-4 Hudson. Big Bold mainline passenger Locomotive. Almost as glamorous as the Blue and Gold S Class stream liners that hauled the Spirit Of Progress. I saw them as a kid powering up Glenroy bank, back in the day. VR had the most glamorous locos. Excellent presentation, day and night. keep up the good work.

Th reason is because the B class beat them to passenger and the B was better

They shouldn't have, being a fast passenger loco...... but the VR made them do what they weren't suited to.

Couldn’t quite work out where the footage was taken. A lot looks like Geelong to Ballarat.🇦🇺

I thought that too, but I'm guessing that the bluestone station was Malmsbury. I could be wrong of course.

The first clips of R761 are from bendigo to Melbourne first one is just north of the elphinstone tunnel. Vline dont run services from geelong to ballarat so the clips of the old station with Vlocities passing cant on that line. Its likely all filmed at various locations on the bendigo line

R761 is converted to oil
@PhantomLoco1327 күн бұрын
On the contrary R761 and 707 have always been coal burners from their inception (0:31). However R719 & 748 were converted to oil firing in the 1950s using the tanks and burner equipment salvaged from scrapped S class 4-6-2s. In addition R711 & 766 were converted to oil burning in the early 2000s when they were acquired by the now defunct West Coast Railway to operate regular service passenger trains from Melbourne to Warrnambool.

What about the American Hudsons, they should be restored and modernised too!...
