82 or 83 is when I first heard them. Had their first album on cassette and wore it out. Before them, I didnt like modern music of the 70's and early 80's. I liked music of the 40's and 50's that I heard on my grandparents' and parent's records better. Huey Lewis' blend of blues, doo wop, and Motown with modern rock really resonated with me. Their a capella songs prove what talented singers they are. Just incredible! The a capella they do on each album and concert were what most impressed me and made them my favorite modern band when I was a kid.

As good as "Sports" and "FORE!" were, this show proves that Huey and the News were creating and performing great music long before they hit it big commercially. Personally I think that their self-titled album and "Picture This" are just as strong as their two "HITS" albums.

Saw this exact concert at the grandstand of our local fair in July 1982 (minus Tower of Power Horns). They played 2 shows that night. I was just shy of turning 10 years old. My mom took me, and after seeing those 2 shows that night, we were fans for life. And I always had such a crush on Chris Hayes :) Their first 2 albums had that rock vibe that I love so much, more than the other albums. Saw them twice more in 1985 and 1987, and they had Tower of Power with them for those shows. HL&TN are a killer live band.

After The News fame wore off and the band was in limbo for a while, I ran into Bill at a club my band was playing in Nashville, Tn. I asked if he would like to get up and play my drums on a song or two and he agreed. I was very disappointed. He seemed totally out of his element and after the first song, asked me to take the sticks back. I noticed that he had put on a lot of weight and just wasn’t right. Most of my students could’ve played better. Don’t know what was wrong with him that night but I hope that he’s better. He was a very nice guy.

If these guys were legitimately from the UK-they'd be ONE of the most critically acclaimed acts of the last thirty years-they'd be thought of like Elvis Costello and the Police. However, as it is they're not acclaimed and wont get into the rock n roll hall of fame. You watch any concert by these guys-simple fact is they are an incredibly killer live band with fantastic songs. The songs seem simple but are actually crafted excellently-truly a great band.

yeah, I really think that too. They could have easily gone unnoticed as well but - - 2 Major things formed their particular character and success. 1) Huey Lewis returning to the Bay Area after Clover with the plan just to successfully gig with a local band in Cali with no band changes or high expectations. 2) Manager Bob Brown aggressively pushing their Sports Album and creating a hit single before that with producer Mutt Lange's 'Do You Believe In Love'

And when you heard them live, they were every bit as good as they were recorded! I can attest to that! No "auto tune," just raw, straight up TALENT.

@@drummingdanny84 I was born in 1980, and I wish I were born several years earlier so that I’d be old enough to appreciate the songs when they first came out. I am always regret not seeing Huey Lewis live in concert when he did not have hearing impairments.

This concert was so impactful to me when I was a kid. I must have watched it a hundred times back then (we taped it). Best version of Change of Heart too! Really takes me back. Thank you so much for uploading this. I will be enjoying this for many years to come.

I was a kid when I recorded this off MTV. I watched it constantly. As big as Sports and Fore! were, this concert gave me a huge appreciation for the stuff off their first two albums. They were my first favorite band and I was just starting to get into the drums. I didn't get my first kit until I was a teenager, but I would use my mom's knitting needles as drumsticks and air drum the entire concert. Bill Gibson was awesome!

I can't wrap my mind around the fact that this type of shit is NOT released on DVD. I am so fucking grateful that KZbin exists, but I want to own this on DVD. I want this for my collection of concerts. Huey and the boys are a fine example of why this type of shit should be available for purchase. Goddammit, I know theres a market out there for this, but noooooo, if the corporate conglomerates can't make a zillion dollars off of a product, then they don't give half a fuck. Well, thanks for listening to my rant. Enjoy!

The true story of how Uncle Charlie's got it's name...in the early 70s it was a Gay bar called The Electric Banana 🍌 The club was about to go out of business, not to many customers. I was moving to Malibu, so I was looking for a cool place to throw a big wild going away party with a good dance floor and DJ. Most places wanted lot's of money to rent the space, I then came across The Electric Banana, after talking to the owner Jeanne we made a deal, two drinks for the price of one till 9 oclock, she went for it! The club was in the Paradise Shopping Center, we filled up the whole club and parking lot that night...I had a lot of partying friends back then, the dance club rocked big-time that night lot's of beautiful ladies dancing to the loud Disco music 🎶 The club made over 2500. dollars that night! (Big-Time back then) Jeanne asked me if I would like to stay and help run the club, I said "No thank you!"So my good friend Mark said he was willing to help run the club. They changed the name of the club naming it after her Uncle Charlie, he was her main investor of the club. They started having live bands on Mon nite's, Huey Lewis and the News band took off big-time creating a loyal following and the rest is Rock history...now you know 🎸Rock On...
