Really well done and informative piece of work. Shows the quality , precision and detail of the foundry-workers art. Those semi elliptical support beams ,probably cast in two sections ,and the support pilasters look as good as new. All of bolted construction predating the onset of welding techniques. The floor cracking probably caused by “spalling”,where the steel reinforcing bars rust inside the cast concrete floors causing cracking as the rust expands. Repairable at a price , but if the building is hopefully reused the balconies would probably be removed. Love the Romanesque style arches and detail of the tiling , showing how important the aesthetics of the building was to the architect. Wonder who he was? Would be interesting to see if any of the original boiler and water treatment plant remains in situ? You obviously have a feel for both the social history , ambience ,and structure of the places you visit. Might I suggest taking a look at some of the neglected but stunning Victorian necropolii that we have in this country. Once you put the “creepy” part behind you these are places of real architectural interest , and an insight into the mores of the time. Sheffield has some particularly interesting ones with now closed chapels in various styles from Victorian Gothic to neo Egyptian.

These Baths in my estimation are more captivatingly intricate architecturally, and more beautiful than even Manchester’s Victoria Baths. The exterior roof structure of the entire building over this room has already been restored. Birmingham must somehow receive the same financial favor as Manchester received to restore those baths of theirs. This pool is the all men’s first class bath. Later they made it available to women as well, but originally the women only had a set of private bathing rooms each one individually equipped with a slipper tub, and the first class men’s side of the building along with both pools had the same set up, but the women did not have any pool whatsoever. As implied there is also a second class all men’s pool adjacent to the first class one you focused on in this video of yours. I’ve seen in another recent multi part video upload that it has been put back in full operation and is regularly open to the public at present. It’s not aesthetically as much up to the level of the first class pool and environs, but it is quite sizable like this one. There are plans to temporarily take down the balcony surround in the first class pool room in order to replace all of the deteriorating cast iron support structure underneath it that is presently being given a considerable assist via all those scaffolding support rods. This pool and it’s entire environs need to be meticulously restored in every conceivable way, just as there are plans in the works to restore every bit of the entire building’s exterior as well. The long time creatively versatile utilization of those Victoria Baths in Manchester is the exact approach that should be taken with these Mosley Baths. The Victoria Baths’ first class pool is routinely employed in a variety of very unique, useful ways. They of course At times have used the pool as it was intended since making it again able to be filled with water, but they also use it drained as a venue for choral performances, and weddings, as well as in other creative ways. When filled they’ve even had water shows of different sorts. The varietal possibilities for this entire Mosley Baths complex are only limited by the imagination. It is first and foremost irrefutably a national British architectural treasure. As such it more than deserves a true, and thoroughly complete preservationist type meticulous approach to its restoration - it deserves nothing less. When completed it will clearly prove to be a substantially practical asset to Birmingham on many levels as well - which of course would first and foremost be again a viable indoor swimming facility for the city via both pools!

The scaffolding is to help support the upper level of the viewing gallery & around the perimeter of the pool. As of yet I'm not aware of any actual work being carried out, its possible that this may have something to do with waiting for the financial funds to be provided
