HUGE 2.5G Spring Ecosphere - SO MUCH LIFE!

Life in Jars?

Life in Jars?

Күн бұрын

This week I built an enormous gigantic huge mega ecosphere! (10L/2.5G) It is completely full of all different kinds of life! I thought it would be nice to build an ecosphere in spring, because all the ponds are warming up. There's daphnia, mayfly larvae and even aquatic isopods! There's also some mysterious red worms and water spiders.... and cool slow motion shots!
Enjoy!

Those are the isopod's gills. They are in the same place as deep sea isopods and horseshoe crabs which are closer related to isopods than true crabs. The 8-eyed blood hedgehod might be a type of or related to leeches. I have never seen a water spider let alone one with lacy frills on its legs. Could be a filter feeder, catching daphnia, algae, and other small arthopods?
@LifeinJars
@LifeinJars 6 жыл бұрын
Ah okay good to know. The 8-eyed blood hedgehog is related to leeches but is doesn't actually drink/suck blood. The Spider is about the size of a daphnia but it might grow bigger. We'll see. Thanks!
@TalenkauenTV
@TalenkauenTV 5 жыл бұрын
Incorrect. Horseshoe crabs are chelicerates of Xiphosura, not crustaceans of any kind. They're closer to arachnids and eurypterids than to any crab or isopod. Try to double check your facts, before you end up spreading misinformation.

Those moving appendages are pleopods and they're used for swimming. The constant motion is likely related to breathing, keeping a stream of water passing over the gills.

I got some rocks with some muss, sand, algae and water. (i am from Portugal btw. it's way too different of every country I every seen a vid about this from) edit: was a bit hard to get into the river (because of tourism things...)

I haven't been through to many videos. But can you give an overview of all your things that you have, including plants, and bugs, if you breed anything, go over what you breed? I want to get into ecosysteming (idk what to call it) and I would just like a little more information upon some of the things you do, and the hows and whys. Like what plants you put into this eco, and I know why you put them in. just a though. Also, what light do you use, if any lights (I don't have anywhere with direct sunlight due to living in an apartment complex)

I would like to try this out, but I don't want to get the creatures killed, so I have a few questions. Do I need to add something to keep the ecosphere alive from time to time? The lid must be closed so no air get in/out of the jar? And about light, where should I place the jar, near a window, far from it, with artificial lamps or none? Thanks in advance! This really impressed me, good work! :D
