HUGE 20ft+ !!! HMS Hood 1918-1920 | Glasgow Riverside Museum

Seen at the Glasgow Riverside Museum is this HUGE 20ft+ model of HMS HOOD from 1918-1920.
Hard to film due to the glass display case but well worth a visit if you are ever visiting Scotland.
History:
HMS Hood (pennant number 51) was a battlecruiser of the Royal Navy (RN). Hood was the first of the planned four Admiral-class battlecruisers to be built during the First World War. Already under construction when the Battle of Jutland occurred in mid-1916, that battle revealed serious flaws in her design despite drastic revisions before she was completed four years later. For this reason, she was the only ship of her class to be completed, as the Admiralty decided it would be better to start with a clean design on succeeding battlecruisers, leading to the never-built G-3 class. Despite the appearance of newer and more modern ships, Hood remained the largest warship in the world for 20 years after her commissioning, and her prestige was reflected in her nickname, "The Mighty Hood".

I remember being so impressed by this model when I was 10 (1962) I believe it is JOHN BROWNS builders model , a part of history . She still shows the original Casement Guns , which were later plated over .

Should you ever find yourself in the Sheffield area, the Kelham Island museum has a builders model of the pre dreadnought Benbow, and a 16" shell that she would have thrown. In need of restoration perhaps, but a welcome surprise. The museum itself is worth a visit however if you have an interest in engineering, and while they welcome donations, its free entry!
