Mat,Tony here. I like your advice on taking even money when you have a blackjack, and the dealer has an "A" showing. A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. Good food for thought, when you consider the amount of "10's in a 6 deck shoe.

You played it correctly soft 17 against Ace. Dealer doesn't know basic strategy. Which is surprisingly quite common. Never take advice from dealer. Always follow basic strategy. Well done. "Let's Go!"

I agree with the way you play for the most part, except when you double down. I will play more conservatively and will usually double down when the dealer has a 6 and lower.

If you want to maximize your chances of winning, you cannot play conservatively. You have to play basic strategy every time.

@@GaryLuKOTH I understand where you are coming from Gary. This is the only part of basic strategy I dont agree with. When you double down against 6's or lower you are playing for the double down and the bust. Against 7's , 8's, 9's, 10's, A's that option is more than likely taken away. But at least we agree on something.............NEVER SPLIT 10's.

J J The dealer still busts on 7 to 10 more than 20% of the time. Yes, you can get a weak card when you double down but the dealer’s hole card is weak as often as your card is weak. You have the edge though (even if you get only one card), because if both you and the dealer get a strong card (typically, a 10 or face card), you have a higher hand. You do not need to win a double down very often. It only needs to win more than 50% of the time to be profitable.

Never Split 10's That strategy table is true if the dealer stands on soft 17. However, according to your table rules, the dealer hits on soft 17. The strategy for that is slightly different from how it is shown on your chart. In that case, you would double down on 11 vs. A, A-7 vs. 2 and A-8 vs. 6.

Player doubles down on his A&3 against dealer showing 3. Basic strategy maybe says to do, but I say don't. Dealer's 3 is almost like a 2, which has only about a 30% chance of dealer busting if he has a 10 as the down card.

Am I watching replays of the sobbing classic "Gone with the Wind"? This guy loses $100,000 every episode. When am I going to see a Disney happy ending where this fellow walks away winning $1 million? Frankly anyone who is stupid enough to play a blackjack game where the dealer hits soft 17 deserves to lose big time. It's disheartening where you have an 18 and the dealer's soft 17 turns into a 21, seemingly every single time. It upsets your aura and your luck goes into a tailspin.

alexcw Lin I refuse to play any table that allows dealers to hit soft 17. In Maryland most if not all the casinos offer non hitting soft 17 at tables where bets are +$50.
