This is exactly how I got my acorn squashes, and exactly how I have planted them. So good to see!

@@MariahWadsworth I checked today and out of 11 plants, I counted about as many fruits. There are some small fruits that early on turned yellow and withered. I assume these are ovaries that flowered before the male flowers opened and were never pollinated.
You can batter and fry those squash blossoms. Many videos on internet. I have even stuffed with herb cheese, battered and fried. It is a treat for me every summer. I usually just use the male flowers which I get a lot of in the beginning. Also, harvest in the morning and make sure no bees are inside bloom such as later in the dsy. A nice treat.

Have you tried doing hand pollination? Where You take a male flower (The ones that have no fruit under them and just a long stem are the male flowers.) Just snap one off and rub the inside stamen onto the inside "stamen"? of the female flowers (female flowers are the ones with fruit under them.) This will ensure pollination (ie big green fruits) in multiple places on one plant, whereas leaving it up to the bees and bugs might only produce 1 or couple. Try it on one plant just to practice and experiment, if you're not sure. By doing this, Your plants yield will be very worthwhile!

Hi jae ski thank you for your suggestion, yes I have to do that, except that all I saw on the plant, up until yesterday, were male flowers. Yesterday I noticed that there were some with the fruit on the bottom - the female. I will definitely do that and let you know how it goes. Regards.

How did your acorn squash do? I planted some butternut squash seeds here in GA.
@MariahWadsworth10 жыл бұрын
North Ga hi, thanks for your view and your question. I was able to get a few small squashes, not many but I learned that since these are vining plants, you can't have them on the floor - unfortunately, most of them were eaten by bugs before I got to them. I will not plant them again, unless I have a trellis that they can climb to. Good luck with your seeds and let me know how they do.

Mariah Wadsworth There are "bush" varieties of acorn and butternut squash that you can buy seeds for in your local Walmart or Home Depot etc. So the vines stay short for a smaller space garden.

North Ga I didn't know about the bush variety, will try it in the fall. I'm in S. Florida and right now it's too hot for squash. Thanks!

Mariah Wadsworth I was born and raised in Hollywood FL. I know all about the heat and humidity. But winter squash are a summer plant. they will just growing in the winter down there b/c of the mild winters.

North Ga Oh wow, we could have been neighbors, lol. I can certainly try to grow them now to experiment, I have seeds, but I thought winter squash was for winter and summer squash for summer. I'll let you know how it goes.

You may want to try hand or manual pollination. There are several videos on how to do it. Good luck.

Wow! Very healthy looking plant you have there. I love growing squash, it is very fun. Hope you get a nice crop Mariah! I subbed to your channel and would greatly appreciate it if you could return the favour. Cheers -Lucas

Hi Lucas, thank you for your comment. I did get a harvest, but not a very good one, the critters got to them before I could. I have since sold my house where I had my test garden and trying my hands on container gardening and once again growing squash but the plant will never get as full as this one. Thanks for subbing. I'll check out your channel. Regards

So sorry to hear about critters eating your squash. You never know, maybe the squash will get even bigger this year! I wish you luck in your future endeavors. Best regards -Lucas

hello u mention wanting "organic" seeds. ALL!!!! plants and animals are organic. also known as alive. the only "inorganic" thing on the planet is anything that has never been alive (rock, sand, water). the seeds you have are organic. hope this helps in the confusion.

Great point. Often when we are improvising, we can make these types of mistakes. You're right. I meant to said that they do not contain any pesticides.
