Hmmm, interesting. My “boxing/ crating philosophy” is just the opposite. The core and shoulders are flatter and tougher on tomatoes than the blossom end and I know I’m not going to eat the stem and part of the shoulders, but I am going to eat that blossom end. That’s what my customers inspect. I find they move around less when stacked stem down. Oh well, to each their own! You do quite well with them that way! Congratulations on hitting 10K subs! Enjoy your content!
@wishwellfarms4 ай бұрын
It seems no matter which way we display them at markets the customers will pick them up and look at the other side and I have found the exact opposite, the blossom end is so much tougher and the shoulder/stem side much more fragile and subject to blemishes especially if they must be repackaged after a slower market, anyways, thanks for sharing your experience.
@michaelpardue24004 ай бұрын
I believe that's a good way. To pick up tomatoes, pick a 1 day and then come back the next day and box them uo
@wishwellfarms4 ай бұрын
I really like doing it that way, that way you can concentrate on just getting the fruit picked and put in the piles not wasting time moving boxes around stacking them and rearranging inside the box. It’s nice to do only that when you don’t have to worry about picking.

How about setting up a go pro onto the frame of the trailer, this way all they have to do is remember to turn it on when they are setting up.

I plan on buying a second and third GoPro so some of the employees can take it with them to film during Market. Unfortunately, I am not able to go very often if at all because of how busy it is back here at the farm. Normally, I am still packing trailers long after the trucks are already on their way to Market so unless I could clone myself, I cannot be there to film.

I'm glad you got the teens, and family. Have you ever considred the oxbow sweet corn picker? Would you demo one? Years ago i was unloading an ice cream trailer at the grocery store with an electric pallet jack. The guy was closing the door after every pull, and there was a fog of cool air from the refer. I came out and the porter was there and said don't forget to put your lights on. I had no lights but was balling laughing before i grabbed another pallet of Breyers ice cream. Put your lights on! I'm sure you leave them off as you will forget them on and the hi-lo is not running! Be safe and sell produce.
@wishwellfarms4 ай бұрын
I'm not big enough to jutify an Oxbo sweet corn picker as I only grow 25 acres....I have friends in southern Ohio that hand pick 250 acres. They used to have one and they sold it. If I was to demo one I would need a way to sort and pack all the junk it would pick that we would normally leave in the field and that would probably take as long as hand picking. I would love to see one in action sometime and film it for my channel.

Every time we watch one of your videos I say I’m going to post a couple of questions in the comments, but never do. So, here goes. Which crop is your most profitable? Why do you find it necessary to buy a crop from someone else if it’s not something you currently have? For example, you had a video taking about buying green beans from another farm.
@wishwellfarms4 ай бұрын
Tomatoes are number one because of our four greenhouses of hydroponic tomatoes, second is sweetcorn and third is green beans. Two main reasons for buying green beans from another farm: first, our mobile produce trailer begins going out on location in June nearly a month before our green beans are ready so much of the produce on the trailer during June is southern produce because our customers expect certain items to be on that trailer to go along with our Tomatoes and Local Berries. Secondly, if I’m short on my own green beans, I will make sure my beans go to our certified farmers markets where you can only sell what you grow and then several of the other locations where I’m allowed to sell a neighboring Farms Produce I will buy some to make sure we are covered. Thanks for the questions, I hope that helps
@youtubestores36454 ай бұрын
The truck problem could be a coolant sensor issue. That would shut the truck down.. If it is not overheating then its likely a malfunctioning sensor. They are also fairly cheap.. Hope this helps ya, Jason.

Love your videos. We live in upstate sc and cant grow tomatoes past July. Any tips on tomato varieties that do well in august?
@wishwellfarms4 ай бұрын
Tomatoes are so susceptible to diseases, they have to be sprayed every 4-7 days with fungicides when disease pressure is high in order to protect them and keep them green and growing...hot humid rainy days will invite many diseases to attack tomatoes and finish them off quickly.
@titanbrockopp88733 ай бұрын
I think you should make a video of just the trailer and if you have ordering info and reach out to that company and see if they will sponsor you and give discount codes and you get some sort of commission for showing it

Tomatoes look great right there at the start of video at least from a distance! What I am hearing is you need to stager another field tomato crop to be ready after this one! Jk I know your ready to be finishing up now!
@wishwellfarms4 ай бұрын
Upon closer inspection, you would see that the plants are just about dead, which in turn makes the fruit not completely turn red but only orange. But nothing that can be done about it now, we still have one nice row inside one of our tomato greenhous that looks beautiful that we can pick on for the next few weeks and and one new row in the field that we just started picking which looks pretty nice

Well, here’s a quick backstory story on Joel, he helped me a ton on the farm from like age 7 to 19 and then went to college and became an engineer and worked in Brookville Ohio for about three or four years, then he came back to Farm and that’s when he started doing a lot of things he’s doing now and just in the last four years he has stepped into the grain operation and has been helping me less because he’s got a lot of irons in the fire and two little ones now.

@wishwellfarms if I recall correctly those npr trucks do have a coolant level sensor. Possibly going bad or chaffed wiring. The description of the " aftermarket electrical box with lights" is throwing me off a little I have never seen such a thing. Possible it is a engine over heat light? What color is the light? Possible you can monitor coolant temp more accurately with a scan tool while driving?
