Everyone forgets about Jakub Dobes who had a .906 save % (Askarov was at .911) in 51 games (Askarov played 44) on a pretty bad Laval team. Obviously, Gallagher, Anderson, Armia, Dvorak - out asap for cap space. Goaltending is a stop gap until Fowler is ready, no point in upgrading it unless you have a surprise playoff push opportunity. D core ... the Canadiens do not know yet if they need one more top pairing D, because the youngsters are still extremely inexperienced, meaning we could potentially have 3-4 first pair D men or we could have 0, we simply don’t know yet, wanna trade the next McDonagh or Sergachev to maybe fix a non problem ? Forward group - Keeping the Caufield, Suzuki, Slaf line together is cute, but it’s far from being a contending team top line as of right now and Newhook shouldn’t be in the top6. The solution would be to acquire 1 more top line player, no top6 bullshit, a guy that can legitimately play line 1 on a contender like Laine, if you really wanted to keep the L1 intact you could then swap L1 and L2 completely. Pushing forwards down from the top will only improve the roster in general.

Trading Gallagher should be the main focus here. Gallagher’s cap hit , is the difference between the habs being a playoffs team or not, this is the obvious next move . They have plenty or too many defensemen and goalie prospects, they also have Kapanen , heineman ready to be thrown in . Gallagher is taking a spot of a guy who could develop and grow with the team .
@verxellic778Ай бұрын
You can’t just have a team full of young players/rookies. Plus trading away Gallagher ain’t solving any playoff problems with this team my guy, they still have a ways to go
@stephaneferron5317Ай бұрын
@@verxellic778 Gallagher couldn’t even make it in the ahl , and yes freeing 6.5 for the next three years would make the habs a playoffs team. If they had Dach last year they could have easily won 6 more games , that puts them right in the mix, plus now they have Laine and the team is one year older Don’t confuse getting rid of dead wood with having good veterans presence in the locker room , the habs have great vets in Armia, Savard, matheson , Suzuki caufield will already be on his fourth year and Slafkovsky his third I’m all about having vets , but not a gallagher at 6.5. The habs have to make room for those raise they’re committed to next year And yes you can have a team full of young guys as you’re in a rebuilt . If anyone offered a bucket of pucks for gallagher , he’d already be gone
@verxellic778Ай бұрын
@@stephaneferron5317 Sure, say they overpaid like hell to get rid of Gallagher. What does that bring to the team? Ur awfully high on Dach and unfortunately he hasn’t proved very much… this second line is still a MASSIVE question mark. All three of Newhook,dach and Laine are coming off injury riddled seasons. The top line of Caufield, Suzuki and Slaf has only been together for maybe a little over half a season. This team needs to show more consistency before even being able to think of playoffs. What’s the point of trying to compete when the teams not ready yet? Say they squeak in to the playoffs as the 16th seed, what does getting destroyed by the presidents trophy winner bring to the team? AND PLUS miss out on prospects like Demidov. Gallagher is the longest tenured hab on this team and is the most qualified to teach the rookies what it is to be a hab, the pressure that comes with this market etc. I think ur focusing on the wrong player to get rid of.
@stephaneferron5317Ай бұрын
@@verxellic778 the only way to get better is to drop $$$, regardless of what you think galllagher has one of the worst contract in the nhl and taking a spot from a younger guy who needs to develop, you have other mature players on the team that can take that road , and yes playoffs is the only goal now The rebuilt is already done , there’s a massive congestion on defense and in net, it seem we have 6 players on our top 6 and Kapanen , beck , Roy , Heineman , xhekaj are here and demidov next year , that’s six rookies for forwards and not spot available , they also drafted 12 times at their last 5 drafts , an nhl record , and they already have 10 picks for 2025. So a shit load of picks over the years they even traded for players without barely moving any active nhl players resulting in having to many pro contracts and more to come for the maximum 50 allowed by the NHL. So you have a few players who make way to much and have no future here , players that have peaked and aren’t worth much Anderson , dvorak , gallagher , Armia So Anderson can easily rebound this year and he unlike Gallagher can still keep pace at nhl level, only 2 years left to his contract so no rush for him . Next you got dvorak who is our he’s great defensively and close friend with the young core of the team , but if not injured he’ll be traded before the deadline Next Armia , the most underrated player on the team , he rank 4th in the league as a winger in the league for pk minute and efficiency despite playing way less game than others, he also ranked 2nd with the habs for goals/game and shot %,! He showed his leadership when he got sent to the AHL and came back . This guy was a beast on the pk in the 2021 cup run and still is , his defensive skills alone is worth the 3.4 he’s making and he should be resigned Which leaves us with Gallagher , 3 years left . Would get outskated by Donald Brashear today , takes dumb penalties, always exhausted , kills momentum on every line he plays with . Its actually sad to watch So with all thise prospects that will have to turn pro in the next two years , being tight to the cap, with the abundance of prospects and picks, the next move should have to be moving Gallagher , you don’t pay a guy 6.5 to tell the younger guys on the team how to behave , the Montréal Canadiens have the largest staff of any nhl team taking care of those investments Obviously you’ve never been in a dressing room while playing hockey, do you actually think that the young core is listening or needing Gallagher’s veteran presence , at this point they probably only feel pity for gallagher , they read the news, they’re on all social media , they all see first hand the sad decline of Gallagher I love Gallagher , this guy played a tough game when he was undersized with never having a guy to have his back during these rough exchange in front of the net , plus his hand is all mangled due to all those injuries and his shot is way bellow average so Long response but to me , the rebuilt is done , plenty of picks for the next two years so just like the GM said, there’s no more lateral moves to be made , now the only thing worth doing is big move and for that you need cap space
@verxellic778Ай бұрын
@@stephaneferron5317 Well thank goodness you’re not the GM, cause brother you are delusional… Just because this team has a load of prospects don’t mean that the rebuild is over. Basically what you’re telling me is that we can shed Dvorak and Savards caps this year without actually having to give anything up in the process? And even BETTER get stuff back?! (Cause good luck finding a team that’ll take Gallaghers contract for anything that isn’t an absolute haul) Seems like waiting it out for another year or two for these awful Bergevin contracts to simply expire while letting the top 6 in the nhl develop and letting the prospects go off in their respective leagues and slowly get called up to the show might just be the more intelligent/cost effective way to do this. If ur insinuating that ur hockey locker rooms were as depressive as you’re describing it than please never invite me to ur dads beer league The next step isn’t playoffs…. It’s improvement. Perfect example of a rushed rebuild like ur describing it is Ottawa. I don’t wanna be like the sens
