For the garage, if you look at Home Depot they have "garage ready" freezers or fridge/freezer combo. They are more equipped to handle the swings in temp found in the garages. I just found out about them. :)

Get yourself a freezer or a upright freezer. My friend had one and she lived in a apartment. It hit me as strange at first but when her grandkids came over that extra storage for snacks and fast food came in handy!
