Thanks for comparing these two models - I wasn't even aware that the 98" TCL R754 existed on the market until I watched your video! Could I justify paying $25K for the 97" LG G2? Seriously, no. So if I was interested in buying a flat-panel TV that was almost 100" in size, I would definitely choose the TCL. However, there is no wall anywhere in my house that can accommodate a 98" TV! But I could absolutely see myself spending $1,696.99 for the 55" LG G2 (which is actually the biggest TV I can fit in my home). Two features of the G2 I like: perfect viewing angles and a future-ready ATSC 3.0 tuner. Still, there's no denying that for those who want a 98" TV the TCL R754 is a HUGE value (and it's also much brighter than a projector).

Yes, I would agree that its hard to justify and the TCL is the better choice if based on cost. (Black levels though matter too so LG has a case to make BUT $25,000? Just shows when you are alone in a market space, what companies can do and then what can happen when they are not.) Suffice to say, I doubt Sony, LG, or Samsung will let TCL steal their market share where price sensitivity matters a lot!) Prices should start to drop next year among all extra-large tv brands? Maybe just hang tight and wait it out until the dust settles? Excellent comparison! Thanks for doing this. (BTW: Hats off to your better-half for doing the “tv-lift”. Wow!)

I paid enough to step up to a 75 Z9K but I couldn't justify paying that much for the LG even if it looks awesome. I would go for the TCL myself if I wanted a set that big. If they had used mini led in it it would look a lot better but probably the price would be a ton more. I don't think I have the wall space for anything that big without completely rearranging my living room anyway and my set has already dropped a grand so you pay now or wait a while till the price drops.
@TheAmplifierfire2 жыл бұрын
You can buy the TCL now and wait 2years and the lg will be close to 10k i suspect. Even if the TCL drops 50% in price over a few years you are only out $2500 but if the LG drops 50% you are out $12000. I learned this lesson when I bought one of the original LG oleds in 2015 when a 65 inch was $5k. 2-3 years later was$2k.

Great review! This is the review I've been waiting for. I bought the 98" TCL and love it, LOVE IT! Perhaps the best money I've ever spent. In this video from 7:20 to 7:35 the TCL was adjusted so it more closely matches the LG OLED. I have two other TV's, both LG OLED's and I really cannot tell any difference between the three once I adjust each to my liking. GREAT blacks on the TCL, way better than I was hoping for, I haven't experienced any blooming either. You cannot go wrong with the TCL, the price is a steal at the current $5K IMHO. I first learned of the TCL 98" from B's videos. Thank you B!!!

I think these models will hit US/EU markets eventually. The price is also quite low (C835 = ~3500 USD, C935 = ~7000 USD), but of course you can't get that price outside China.

Once we get into these huge sizes and high tier brands and tech...I think the differences between one or another starts to become pretty frigging negligible. How can you justify paying FIVE TIMES the amount for what? A 5% improvement in image, IF THAT? And at THIS point you might as well just switch over to a Laser TV. All of the specs might not totally match, but for the same price you can crank the screen size up to 120 inches, and UST projectors are ever-improving in image quality. I think we are reaching the point where that "OLED Difference" matters less and less. If the difference isn't obvious and dramatic...it is hard to argue that it is worth it

I recently upgraded to a 65 inch premium OLED. A superb picture. My only regret? I wish I’d opted for a bigger screen. Then I saw the price of the 98 inch TCL QLED slowly drop. My interest perked up. Then TCL through a spanner in the works by introducing a highly competitively priced 85 inch miniled. Half the price of my 65 inch OLED! But that thought kept resounding in my head, ‘I wish I’d bought bigger’. So I purchased the 98 inch TCL QLED. I’ve absolutely no purchase regret. It’s a superb, all round, high value, high performance, bang for the buck tv. Yes, if you wish to pay 5 times the price, you’ll get a tv that out performs the TCL, in some areas. But unless you did a side by side comparison, I doubt you would even notice. So what became of my 65 inch OLED? Well, my 15 year old daughter is the most popular girl in her class, now that she has it in her bedroom connected to a Sky Q box! Of course, the other factor to keep in mind, is that tv panel technology is moving forward at the speed of light, pun intended. Paying 25000 today for technology that is surpassed tomorrow, hurts more than your wallet.

$25k for a TV Really ? I don't understand the purpose of buying something that expensive. I'd rather invest that money in a good car
@lesgarten2 жыл бұрын
QLED is better IMO overall. The OLED loses too much detail in the dark areas. The QLED looks like it needs adjusting because it is blown out(overexposed) in general. It seems like the QLed could be fixed, OLED is too dark. When the OLED is good, it's very good, but when it's bad, it's very bad. So OVERALL I think QLED is the winner. Just don't put them side by side.
@popthiccle1158 Жыл бұрын
you can't really compare the brightness levels through the video, because of the limited dynamic range of the camera it will always make the bright areas over-exposed and the dark areas lose detail.

Any TV enthusiast will be able to tell the difference. A casual viewer? Probably not. But you're you're out of your mind if you think a QLED will be able to match the black levels of an OLED

When it comes to blu-ray and HD content, my Sharp Elite Pro 70” can still hang with the best OLED’s of today. The engineers from Pioneer and Sharp really knocked that one out of the park. Full disclosure, that’s comparing it to my 65” Sony A90J. 4k makes ZERO difference when sitting 6-10 feet from your screen, as the added pixel density is not discernible with the naked eye.

@@paulc5389 To help shed further perspective on my comparisons… I have 20/10 vision, and when watching high def 1080p blu-ray content on my Sharp Elite vs the same 4k blu-ray HDR or Dolby Vision movie on the A90J, there is absolutely zero difference in PQ from any distance, especially normal seating distance. The A90J certainly doesn’t exhibit more clarity or contrast and detail. And for the record, I’m not comparing color accuracy, nor am I comparing SDR content and the ability of the 4k tv to upscale better than the 1080 tv. That said, perhaps it’s just a testament as to how good the Sharp Elite Pro really is when watching blu-ray content… It’s actually kind of funny because everyone’s hyped the newer OLED’s so much, that when I finally got the A90J…I was actually a bit underwhelmed. In other words, the PQ was nothing I haven’t seen before… The so called claim to fame of amazing “specular highlights” were supposed to be fantastic (and they’re good) but when local dimming is set to advanced low on the Sharp Elite, it’s no contest between them. The Sharp Elite can flat out blind you, while still maintaining accuracy and detail. I’m a stickler for detail, and admittedly, I’m a downright tv snob. I’ve owned several Pioneer Kuros including the 151FD, 141FD, 101FD, and the 500M. I’ve owned a Panasonic ZT60, and obviously the Sharp Elite Pro 70 & Sony A90J. Of those sets, the D-Nice calibrated Pioneer 101FD had the inkiest blacks, and most lifelike (almost 3D) image I’ve ever seen. Anyone who’s owned a properly calibrated Kuro will know just how amazing the PQ was, and still is. The Sharp Elite is basically a Kuro on steroids because it’s simply bigger, and brighter - and the specular highlights are unlike anything I’ve seen on any other television when the tv is dialed in properly…but I digress. Here are the blu-ray/4k blu-ray movies that I’ve compared between the A90J and Sharp Elite, while the 2 sets were side by side: 1) Blade Runner 2049 2) Gladiator 3) Fury 4) WALL.E Criterion Edition 5) Coco

We just got a new home and after 5 long years using a "shitty" Hisense 55 we want to and are able to uprade. We want to get a 75 one because we are like 8 to 9 feet away from the TV. I did watch some of your videos and i thought about getting the sony X90K. But when i saw that there are considerably big blooming problems it was a nogo for me. We do not watch any Cable or Sports. If i got some time i play on my PS5 and other then that we watch YT, Disney, Netflix and Amazon videos. My budget is about 2000€. Our living room is fairly bright so a good light reflexion is important. Please tell us what TV would be the best.

I love LG OLEDs but $25K for a TV at that size is ridiculous. That's like more than half of most people's salary and the same price as a good car. I really don't see the increase in size to justify the huge increase in price. You might as well get a projector if you want a home theatre.
@alanlindsay83102 жыл бұрын
Even from a KZbin channel, it's easy to see that the TCL can't compete with the LG. Anyone saying it's close are the ones that will also say a Soundbar is as good or close to a dedicated audio system. Hey if you want big and that's your budget, cool. But the Oled is hands down better in every area.

I wouldn’t purchase either. I’m waiting for the larger TV’s that are emissive using either QD-OLED or micro-LED to become more affordable. I’m not going to buy a big TV like that, that doesn’t perform off axis without degradation. Viewer distance matters, and a big screen will be effectively closer viewed by definition, and need better off axis performance to be truly immersive. Of course malls have proven over and over again that brightly lit environments don’t favor OLEDs. But micro-led will blow people away in just about any lighting. The large micro-LEDs may likely be the first very good commercial displays in living rooms, smaller than billboards.

@@Radarcb329 you're like people I knew growing up, wouldn't buy a color tv until the price went down, etc. Wanted the tech to improve, nothing wrong with buying a decent set now. My prediction is that micro Led will prevail, but it could be years.
