Depends where you live. In the UK Silver Bullion deals come with a 20% VAT liability. obviously Gold coins are better being free of all taxes.

@@thaboomer53 If a confiscatory scheme were to launch, there will be far more immediate worries than the theft aspect. Also, there would be a deficit of "collectors ". The majority of confiscation would be voluntary, no different to 1933. Either way, expect examples of increasing insanity and desperation...

I thought if a coin had a value e.g one dollar etc it became currency whereas a gold round wouldn't,in Britain our bullion gold and silver has king on one side £2 on other of silver and I'm sure a value on gold coin

Buying gold in jewellery I have done in the past however to buy gold jewellery you have to go to an auction house , to buy from a jeweller the mark up is huge like more than a 100% however to buy at auction it costs approx 25% and then when you sell at auction they charge you another 25% you can scrap the stuff which is a realistic solution if bought right which is harder and harder to do today. What I am saying is you do not get paid for the astetic of the items as much as you should although that can change, when things get worse than they are now would you want to be walking the streets of any big city wearing a gold necklace when gold is 15000 and ounce they will swop it for yer with lead

That's my basic plan as well, although I would be selling silver in 10% increments in case it took a while to bottom... probably sell at 40:1, 38:1, 36:1, etc. If it goes back up, I would stop selling at 40:1 and hold what I had at that point.

Confiscation is a long shot, IMO. PMs are not circulated as money anymore, and there would be a huge s**t-storm of lawsuits against seizing private property. SCOTUS would have a field day over something like this or any other widespread asset grab. If they can confiscate gold and silver, why not land, homes, and anything else they might want? Also, just because they SAY they are confiscating gold and silver does not mean that people would be foolish enough to allow it to be done to them. We've seen that movie before and it was nasty. Only 25% of the gold then in circulation was actually turned in, so on that basis alone, it was a colossal failure.
