In the Netherlands they do not wash the eggs, when they come from the chicken, therefore they do NOT need to be kept in the fridge. In North America most eggs are washed and then they MUST be kept in the fridge.

If you're still close to Maastricht: 20 minutes from Maastricht is Heerlen. Not as romantic as Maastricht, but theres a very cool building/neighbourhood called the Maankwartier, created by a local artist. Worth a visit for sure. Heerlen is also the street art capital of The Netherlands, theres an app which guides you through all streetart in the city. Heerlen also has a rich history of mine workers and the roman empire. The oldest building of the Netherlands built by the Romans is also in Heerlen, only accesible by visiting the thermenmuseum.

To be fair that one might be weak, many of the ones you get are bland. I make my own with sherry, mayonaise, lemonjuice, some honey or sugar, spicy paprika powder and ketchup. Turns out a bit runny but packs loads of flavor and great for a salad with tuna.

.5% in supermarket versions though.. so it won't get you drunk ;)

Oh man you should try the fusion dishes out of the Indodutch kitchen. We all know spekuk of course, if you're in NL you should try the babi pangang here. They've sort of mixed it up with Cantonese cooking style. It's a national staple dish. Also babi rujak or daging rujak (beef), they've taken the rujak fruit salad idea loosely, and made it into a fruity, sweet and spicy meat stew.

The cooked coloured eggs are easter eggs. You'd think we only sell them around easter, but they are being sold the entire year round. This is something that just happened in the last few years and i don't really understand why :D (maybe because its more convenient that way to have a few cooked eggs on the go, i really don't know lol) Also if a Dutch person says they have Whiskey sauce, it's usually Whiskey-cocktail (a standard dutch bbq/table sauce). Goes great with pork and chicken, or traditionally with shrimp and crab...regular fish not so much :p There isnt even whiskey in it, it's based on mayo with cognac and sherry, paprikapowder, ginger, ketchup and cream.
@VolpeWhereAreYou4 жыл бұрын
Those sauces sound amazing, gotta try them!

@@VolpeWhereAreYou You already did :D (The orange sauce with the kibbeling) It's not that great with any kind of white fish because the flavours don't add up. Fried white fish usually comes with Ravigotte sauce. ;) Would recommend to check the sauce isle at a Dutch supermarket (like AH) and see the crazy selection we have to choose from. Get a big bag of fries from a local snackbar and just go ham.
