I think Super Nanny knew exactly what she was doing. The whole trip to the Restaurant was to make the mother face what she had created. The pacifier was the best tool to use for this lesson as he supposedly only used it at bedtime. So why is he using it at lunch? Maybe mom gave it to him thinking it would "pacify" him and he would behave. That was a lesson for mom way more than for the child.

In my favorite restaurant there was a kid screaming at the top of his lungs and everyone was staring at her and when she caught my gaze she went “I’m so sorry” and I told her “Your kid doesn’t belong in public!” She covered her face in her hands and started sobbing. Her husband looked like he was going to get up and say something but I grabbed my drink and he sat back down. This was the perfect setting for teaching both the child AND the mother. Although, it was rough on the other diners, the mother and child had to experience this lesson at the restaurant since this was the place where the mother was clueless, and the child was never given rules and guidance. Telling the child ahead of time "we're going to a restaurant so you'll have to behave", would fall on deaf ears. This kid had to experience the lesson right there at the place where he has his tantrums. It's kind of like teaching someone to swim by letting them experience having their bodies in water, and not just looking at the water. Glad the nanny offered to pay for the man's meal at the end.

yeah but see I'd have taken my child to the bathroom, given her three firm swats on the bare butt, and then sat her down for a good long lecture as to why her behavior was unacceptable. You can't let a child have control. This Mom just let the toddler take control, and it wasn't fair on her, on her other children, or on the diners. But most importantly it wasn't fair to the toddler himself. Children need to learn self control. They need to learn what is allowable in public. How far they can push mom and dad before they get an abject lesson in manners. This mom learned how important it is to maintain control over her children. She'll get it now.

To everyone getting upset with Jo taking the pacifier from the kid cuz he was uncomfortable or whatever the case. She was just making a point on how the mom has done nothing but coddle the kid and given in when he pisses and moans. At this age he needs to learn to not get his way and be too old for a pacifier, besides she paid for the other customer’s food for having to deal with that. That boy is too old for that and should have given it up at the age of one or one in a half, whether it’s the pacifier or not point is this mom kept giving into his tantrums and that’s how you get reactions like this.

@asheisadora5 жыл бұрын
@@BJKage I agree he's too old for nappies. I very much disagree that when people eat out they should be prepared to be exposed to behavior like that. That was not a "crying" child. That was a screaming, badly spoiled child having a major tantrum to get his way, and it was loud and prolonged. Restaurant customers should not be expected to put up having their eardrums blown out and their meals disrupted. If Junior is known to act that way, then he should stay home with a sitter. I have three kids and each was completely their own person even in-utero. So my oldest was a preemie and only nursed for about three months. He hated pacis, but he LOVED his "bobble". We didn't switch him to a sippy cup until he was about 18mo. Then we had our first daughter - she refused to take ANYTHING in her mouth except ME. No bottles, no pacis, no sippy cups, nothing. I had to nurse her until she was past two and a half. So when we had our third child and she loved her paci right from the start in the hospital, I was ecstatic!!! She nursed until she was a year old and then self weaned. She would drink from a bottle or cup with no issue. But she didn't want to let go of the paci. Both the dentist and the doctor said it was FINE and so we didn't fight it. Her baby teeth were a bit bowed, but it didn't affect her adult teeth at all. And she was so easy to soothe as long as we had her paci. So, I know it's easy to pass judgment, but until you've lived in the shoes of a parent, you can't know why they make the decision to do things like allow pacifiers or bottles past a year old - or have a toddler hanging off their breast 😂! It got so bad that I ended up taking her with to several concerts because I knew she couldn't be away from me from more than four hours. This is the kid who had a vocabulary of 70+ words before she was 18 months old...we had a full on, adult discussion about her needing to wean off her "nana" (my breastmilk) before I had her baby sister. So after all that, a child wanting a paci didn't bother me in the least (and it didn't have any "lasting effects" on her...she's 12yrs old and in all talented and gifted programming).

I didn't like this, usually love supernanny but why couldn't have removing the pacifier been done gradually at home. The siblings will probably blame their little brother for lunch being ruined and not the organisation of the situation. He probably would react the same at home so why even start to do it in public. If the eldest two are well behaved clearly it's not her parenting skills but too many children to handle.

So agree. And they are also making him feel deep shame for something he doesn't understand. Of course he'll act out if he is learning for the first time outdoors how to deal with uncomfortable emotions. They weren’t going into the situation looking to quit the pacifier altogether. They were there to eat and the boy freaked out when his mom tried to take it so he could eat lunch. I don’t see much wrong with that, but where I do see an issue is why they didn’t leave way sooner, and why they threw it out at all. Add to that when they were both crouching in front of him just throwing words at him, not the best way to get an already aggravated and surely hungry 2yo to calm down. I know I HATE when people get in my face. Trying to get the kid to eat, though, can’t be blamed for that.

All you people that agree with her "parenting techniques" have been BRAINWASHED. The way to deal with children that are violent or don't listen is to NOT threaten them or blackmail them, all you have to do is sit them down, hug and kiss them, tell them how much you love them and how their behaviour makes you feel. That's all. If they are so violent, then they must've learned it from someone who's been aggressive and mean towards them, that is not how you talk to children.. Ween Fain I so agree with you. Some kids are plain hard especially at 2-3 years old. My son was like this for a few years too, we never went out for dinner it just wasn’t worth it. At 4-5 and he sits down and he’s great. It’s not a great age to be sitting down at a restaurant ! I actually think it’s unrealistic for kids to sit down for more than 20 mins for a meal in public if they’re 2!!

Agreed. Kids grow out of this stage so sometimes it’s easier to just pacify them through it to survive every day...
