It's to make gold farming operations more difficult... Most gold farming operations just rotate gold to new accounts to purchase game time to farm more gold... By making it so that actual game time must be purchsed first, it's adding an additional fence to discourage farming.

Ah, makes sense. Thanks for clarifying

There isn’t any morality involved with this. It’s about putting more money in blizzard coffers hands down.

Well, I could only hope they won't apply it to EU region, because I literally cannot pay for the game time - it's been a while since they've disabled the shop itself for anyone who has Russia set as country in their profile. They won't accept any kind of payment even from other country cards, and won't allow to change it unless you own a property in another country or can prove being a resident there otherwise. I can't even remember when was last time I paid actual money for it. Used lots of tokens around WoD time, but for past several years I've been playing thanks to 1 year tokens from a friend who worked at Blizzard and had a few extra to share, but he no longer works there. So unless something changes by the end of 25 year, I'll be completely locked from the game that I played since vanilla 😔

If you paid game time at any point in that account, this shouldn't apply to you.
@LoneIrbis11 ай бұрын
@@hillnor6812 as far as i understand, not at any point, but starting from 2017. I paid plenty before that, pretty sure i played at least 3-4 years purely from real money around BC times, maybe later. But starting from 2016 or so - i really can't recall if I even had a card attached to my account, to be honest.

as far as i understood it yes. You need to just pay one time in order to buy gametime with gold again@@Brutallio.Gaming

@@Brutallio.Gaming It's just a one-time real money payment, afterwards you can continue to buy the token with gold like before. If you've ever paid for a sub with real money since 2017, you already qualify to buy the token with gold.

if you read the post instead of just intentionally ommitting details for clicks, you'd see they literally said you just have to have bought 1 month in the last 6 years.@@Brutallio.Gaming but i will say this is a pretty shitty move by blizzard. Imo I think this is their way of stopping the bots, similar to elon musk combating bots by making people pay for X. people are using so many bots to farm gold, so by forcing the bots to buy game time, it should effectively break the gold farming bots. but on the other hand, idk.

@@Brutallio.Gaming the official wording is weird, but it sounds like that's what they're saying. As long as you've paid for a monthly subscription, you can continue wow token transactions. I could be wrong, but they'll likely make a clarifying response this week (unless everyone is on vacation at Blizz).

I used to make enough gold to buy tokens for my two boys and I. I have just got to the point Id rather keep the gold and spend my biden bucks on warcraft😂 I mean a cheeseburger and fries at Wacarnolds is 13 bucks.
@Kugrox11 ай бұрын
yeah thats a good point, for the price of WoW its basically 1 meal per month you're spending. of course the counter argument is that every service you use costs about the same so it really does start to add up which is why people are trying to save as much money as they can. maybe WoW should partner with another company to provide free game time under XYZ circumstances, but of course that wont happen because the real main reason they are doing this is for profit. Because they know a lot of people will immediately go buy a month of game time because they can't read.

WoW token marked the death of the game. Get rid of it.
@Sieryx11 ай бұрын
It's funny, I partially agree, but I can also see how they were basically cornered into doing something like this. Before the Wow token gamers would "illegally" purchase gold. Blizzard initially tried to shut them down, but the gold sellers just kept popping up. They tried to get better tracking it, but no matter how hard they tried, they kept popping up... So, in an attempt to stick it to the gold selling market, and to get a piece of the pie, blizzard introduced the wow token. And to battle "inflating" the economy, introduced it in such a way that it's part of the economy with gold leaving the economy by way of game time. The gold sellers are still here, but now Blizzard is getting a piece of that pie. Truthfully, it wasn't the wow token that ruined the game, and it wasn't even the gold farmers that ruined the game. It's the group of gamers that would prefer to buy gold rather than work towards it in game. And I'm sure they all have their reasons, but if there was no market for buying gold there would be no gold sellers. There would be no wow token. It's just like any business. Consumers vote with their dollar... If someone is willing to buy, someone else will be willing to sell. Edit: I forgot to mention, I think blizzard was also trying to crater the gold selling market. I think at its highest the wow token sold for just over 400k... Unless you're working with a team, I don't think you can farm more 50k gold with optimal conditions... If you were a single person trying to compete with Blizzard for selling gold, you would need to farm for 6 hours just to make $20 at the current rate of just under $300k. It's just not worth it to farm for selling.

Imo you should be paying for a sub anyway. WoW is one of the rare MMOs that hasn’t completely sold itself to microtansactions and loot boxes. Other than WoW and FFXIV, I think every single other MMO has some sort of premium currency and a cash shop, and loads of predatory marketing like pitiful daily log in bonuses and constant limited time items to push FOMO. If you’ve been spending enough of your life farming money to buy tokens, then yes, WoW is worth the sub lmao. Unless your job (assuming you have one) pays you less money in the same amount of time it takes to farm the gold for a token, you’re better off buying a sub and using the time you aren’t wasting by farming to either work more or touch grass. For me one month is $15. Idk about you but I can’t make over 300k gold in one hour playing wow 😅

u are a bit high ???? u can buy gold for money,.. and for gold u can buy ALL!!!!!! Gear, Mounts, Progress, Horst's sister... no one need lootboxes with this system... this system is worser then lootboxes... with loot boxes you at least need luck..
@Scuuurbs11 ай бұрын
@@ProfessorLuxi buying gold for money goes against Blizzard’s TOS. You can buy premium in-game items with real money, you can buy character services, and you can buy progress UP TO current content (it’s not p2w tho, you still have to play and gear up normally, it just skips leveling through old content). Needing luck for loot boxes is WHY it sucks. Instead of paying $25 USD for a Mount and knowing exactly how much it’s worth, with lootboxes people have spent hundreds of dollars and gotten junk items, nothing they wanted. If you enjoy wasting your money then sure, lootboxes are better. 🙄
