My favorite non-fly fishing fly fishing thing is fingerless gloves for cold weather (just get the Walmart kind for $5 in the bike isle…no need to spend $75 on the simms/patagonia/orvis ultra glove 9000). Nothing brutalizes my hands more than a cold rod or wading staff during the hike in. The gloves start to lose their effectiveness a bit as your hands slowly get wet from the line but usually the sun’s coming up and warming things by that point anyway. You can also tuck hand warmers into the top of each glove if you’re so inclined.

An earlier comment about a wading staff reminded me of mine (8 steel sections w an elastic cord up the middle). I bought one two seasons back. It came with a cork handle and a tiny compass. That all broke off in the lot. I put the remains in the hatch. Later, I cleaned off the glue and cork bits. I measured the diameter of the steel sections of the staff, found soft rubber mountain bike grips on the line, bought them, and worked one down to the third section from the top, and the other onto the top section. Perfect. Top grip for the river, lower grip as you climb the vertical banks out of the river. Bought a tough nylon holster for it at Home Depot that has a Huge Velcro strap for attaching it to my (wader or regular) belt.

sorry yes I only go fishing with one rod and I do not break it. Also, it's best not to net fish at all . bring them shallow and on hook them without touching them.. if they need reviving you fought them too long and you need heavier gear for your skillset.
@nathanduifhuis5998
@nathanduifhuis5998 2 жыл бұрын
Have to disagree with not using a net with smaller fish it is probably better to just unhook them with out netting them but with larger fish netting them reduces fight time and prevents them from thrashing in the shallows. Seen it way too often salmon fishing where people drag fish thrashing in inches of water in order to tail it. Also if you are going to take a photo or need to grab your forceps to remove the hook you can let the fish swim in your net wile you get prepped especially with larger net baskets.
@roballen3026
@roballen3026 2 жыл бұрын
@@nathanduifhuis5998 netting a fish forces you to handle a fish often times before it's ready to be handled. I have found that bringing a fish into say 6 inches of water and if you keep the line tight they do not thrash. It's been my experience with salmon and steelhead fishing that two things are true. 1. People use tackle that is too light and 2. People don't fight fish hard enough.. I would however say that we are splitting hairs. The simple fact is that catch and release works...

You know whats also Bad for the fish, pull the fish lets say a snook all over the beach sand, getting sand on the slime, eyes and mouth provoking a HUGE damage.

Kids … should fish with worms dug up in the backyard for sunnies using bobbers and the hood old zebco 202 reel. Give em a few years before turning them into fly fishing a-holes like we all do.
