In the 80s I grew up in a house that's in the woods behind your first beer you popped open. As a small kid I would just cross the pasture and visit "Brown Town". At the time I didn't know it was off-limits until many years later. However, back in the 80s, I never saw anybody fishing that stretch of river. You are lucky to have access!

Pretty simple, if the water is 65-70 degrees the fish are struggling for oxygen and fishing them can kill them easily. Parks and wildlife will post when the water is getting too warm and fishing is prohibited, also if a river is getting too warm every fly shop you walk into will let you know if fishing is restricted. If you want to get nerdy get a river thermometer to check it yourself. River temp can also guide you to where they're holding.

Lol now that you mention it I don't think I've ever had a brown jump on me. Also bigger rainbows tend to run downstream on me more. Browns really love to dog me in heavy current. Had a 17" today that I hooked in the day tailout of a run right above a rifle and he held in that current so hard that I actually had to use my fighting butt to turn him. Thankfully I was using 1x on a streamer so I could really muscle him.

I know that you are on private water here, but I really wish you wouldn't blow up such a small river. This fishery cannot handle added pressure from a youtube channel like this. Denver Water crushes this fishery with trans basin diversions. I've been fishing this river many, many years and increased angling pressure and water demand from Front rangers have really made such a negative impact on this fishery. Not too many years ago there was a full blown salmon-fly hatch every year in the canyon: it was diminishing every year until, the record low winter of '11/'12, which was a nail in the coffin for those monster stoneflies. The same is true for mottled sculpin: which less than 10 years ago a fishery survey recorded the highest concentration of mottled sculpin ever recorded for any river in the whole state, now its less than 20% that number. Local advocates have conceded the fact that this once mighty river has been doomed to be creek due to trans basin diversions; problem is, the river bed is mean to hold a river, not a creek. The biggest issue here is that It becomes incredibly shallow and heats up to over 70 degrees most years now come august ... Trout unlimited is advocating for this "river," negotiating stream channel digging improvements in exchange for inevitable diversions stating "we'd rather have a health ____ creek than a dead ____ RIver" I met Adam maybe 7 years ago on a chairlift and we talked a lot about the valley waters. He's a great guy and he will agree with me on this... There is only 1/3 mile of public access in the stretch of water below the ranch and can handle 3-5 anglers a day max. They have had to institute a voluntary Tuesdays and Thursdays closure as well as a two car maximum in the parking area. I understand you run a fishing channel and that you just want content, but I implore you to take this down or include something about advocacy for this endangered river. p.s. I remember Adam and I disagreed on the best fishing time of year in the valley. In my experience, no doubt, 100%, the largest fish every year are landed pre-runoff... I think because he's a Tennessean he just prefers the warmer months or maybe its just that he's used to exclusive private water fish haha ;) Best wishes, -Rob
@robertmcmanus58754 жыл бұрын
not to mention that this river is essentially ground zero for whirling disease and only aggressive stocking of resistant "hofer strain" trout since the 2000's have created (what they hope is now) a self sustaining rainbow fishery along with a mandatory catch and release of all bows in the headwaters.
@HugeFlyFisherman4 жыл бұрын
@@robertmcmanus5875 sorry man, but I'm not going to take it down. I did remove the one comment that named the river. People are going to bitch about whatever I post, so you can get in line with the rest of them. I've lived in the valley for almost 20 years, so I'm well familiar with everything you said. I hate to break it to you, but this river is not a secret. And exposure isn't always bad. If more people cared about the river, then maybe it wouldn't be so fucked.
@HugeFlyFisherman4 жыл бұрын
@@robertmcmanus5875 also, I'm going to delete your comment because you named the river. You're complaining about me hotspotting, but you just did the same thing. @robertmcmanus58754 жыл бұрын
I edited that out immediately. in general I think having more advocates for in stream water right is a good thing, but you must be aware that this river can't handle the pressure. as far as it not being a secret, i get that... Front fly shops have been blasting it as a zone for years. I ask anglers where they heard about it and the lions share would be that exactly. you have 20,000+ subscribers though... i know your not gonna take it down but you could talk about the issues i mentions still without naming it to mitigate the damage you're doing
