Probably my favourite song of all time. Makes my hair stand on end. In the 1980s I used to walk home (20 mins) in my lunch hour just to play the record! Looking forward to seeing Hugh here in Sydney next month.

I’ve always know what a brilliant guitarist Hugh is ❤

Yes, he is! Although, he said in an interview that he can't improvise a solo ... I can't play a solo without, and found it hard to learn at first, but some day, it went CLICK, ... anyway, he's a great one, a fellow Telecasterist. Really enjoyed seeing him play live, in a small venue, in ... 2015? Anyway, te above, plus this is one of my favourite songs by the Stranglers, along with Toiler on te Sea ... they both leave no doubt they were honest when they called themselves Shadows-fans ... long mid-tempo instrumental parts, ...

The 4 part down in the sewer my all time favorite track but i supose it is so long it is almost a symphony. Likenthis new version without keys so far in too. The only other concert i ever been too also had a 4 parter .. Knights of Shame.. Awolnation.

For me he was so under-rated. Should have had his own Signature Telecaster! (JJB should have had a Signature Bass too but that's a different story)

Hugh, I remember reading some years ago that Jaz Coleman of Killing Joke infamy was planning to re-unite The Original Stranglers. Sadly, Jet was forced into retirement and Dave has now passed away into Greener Fields yonder, which leaves just you and JJ. Any chance Hugh?
@aidanbrennan65874 жыл бұрын
I would like to see it but it will never happen.it is really sad that both have fell out.back in the day the both of them really worked well together.life is too short so Hugh and JJ please start talking to each other or you will have regrets if you's don't.RIP Dave you are sadly missed.😢💕

With the sad passing away of Dave for Green Fields new and fresh and the well-earned rest/sleep of drummer Jet Black, I just wonder how long before Hugh and JJ bury the hatchet and renew acquaintance. I am guessing that the first moves of reconciliation will come from Hugh as JJ just strikes me as a too-proud bombast!

Nah man, I disagree. Before I heard it I thought "Down in the Sewer" WITHOUT Daves bits?!" But Hugh more than makes up for the whole thing just by himself!!! And his bassist and drummer were great too ,of course.

Guys, I am sorry, but I am just not feeling it. I realize that Hugh was the "creative genious" behind the Stranglers, but he went soft towards the end and how dare he leave a punk rock institution. It went to his head. He thinks he is hot shit and went out on his own to a rather lackluster carrer. His solo music largely sucks. Now, he is relying on the songs of yore to get fans in. Sorry, I would 100 times rather see the other three with the new guy that replaced him. It is his business but I can't get behind him.

sorry the brass band era was shiite imo and im their biggest fan and was time to call it a day. Abba wound up and remain great . And who knows what JJ was like if high on whatever and they were arguing. Their legacy is what counts. Seeing old hacks ok for nostalgia but what for if we have so many original youtube vids. Young groups should include strangler songs as part of their repertoire like strangs used walkon by , all day all night, summer in the city.... Perhaps this will come to pass.
@leezeppelin482 жыл бұрын
He wasn't the "only creative force" in The Stranglers but he was the main one. The rest is just your opinion, which is a bad one I reckon. Seems you just don't know Hugh.
