@@pmsavenger Last year, during her rehearsal for the Oscars, she had what is known as a transient ischemic attack (TIA). They took her to the hospital & found she was not getting any blood flow to one side of her brain due to what is known as Moyamoya disease -- which affects mainly Pacific Islanders.. She recovered enough to do the Oscars performance (go watch that video now knowing this) because, as a theatre person "the show must go on." After the Oscars, she had a 10-hour double brain bypass operation. She had to learn how to walk, talk and write again. She says it's giiven her a new lease on life. Google Keala Settle stroke and you'll find a number of articles. We are blessed to have her among us mere mortals.

@@sampatterson3909 Holy crap. I've seen the clip already, and I just assumed she seemed emotional because it's such an emotional song, and because she's a great actress and well. All over amazing. Seeing it again, knowing that, makes it even more amazing than I already thought it were. I'm so happy to hear she has recovered though. Her voice just blows me away, every time. I first heard this is me when Kesha sang it(during the olympics, there was this figure skating gala thing to it), but only saw the movie(and heard her version) some weeks ago. Yes I don't watch a lot of movies. And I can't get enough of her voice, I think I've gone over all of youtube for more of it. I did wonder why I haven't seen anything new by her, but the stroke explains it. Urgh, it must have been so terrifying. I'm really happy that she's well again, I need more of her!

Stage teaches a "Choir Smile" I swear, I HATE IT. It is 100% great to see these girls genuine smile. I love that Hugh just keeps smiling at them like the proudest dad in the world, he all but bows to them as they're trying to perform. Their enthusiasm in both songs is absolutely breathtaking. As a proud father I'm hoping that my beautiful daughter who has been with the AGC for 3+ years now will one day be able to take to a stage like this and many many other opportunities.
