Hughes Fire burns 9k+ acres in LA, forces thousands to evacuate | LiveNOW from FOX

Officials in Southern California gave an update Wednesday night on the Hughes Fire burning near Castaic Lake north of Santa Clarita. It's burned more than 9,000 acres since it broke out earlier in the day, and is 0% contained. A Red Flag Warning in the area has been extended until Friday by the National Weather Service. More than 30,000 people are under evacuation orders and over 23,000 are under evacuation warnings throughout Los Angeles County and Ventura County. At least 400 fire personnel are fighting the blaze, ranging from Angeles National Forest, LA County Fire and Cal Fire. Meantime, Governor Gavin Newsom said state resources have been deployed to assist in the federal response. No structures have been damaged or destroyed. Some schools in the area will remain closed on Thursday.

They used to have controlled burns all the time, and maintenance all through southern California in the 70's - 90's. They need to go back to the basics of forest maintenance!!!

Santa Clarita (sp?) provided extremely important advice to his constituents. I evacuated New Orleans ahead of Katrina. People die in evacuations. He said be ready to move and take your meds and docs. Might not seem terribly important in the short term but it will make life easier. I would add don’t forget your laptop and cell phone. Communication becomes a real focus and can be problematic. Usually text messaging works if nothing else. Drinking water and some food and extra gas if you can get it. You could be camping in your car for a night or 2; I had too. Hard to close my eyes that night! My prayers are with your people.

That video from the women and fam. Going trough a burned down house with 3 fire trucks in the same street. Only 1 firefighter is like wtf are you doing. They even had a golden globe? Fire blankets don’t require water to extinguish fires ! Fire triangle (heat, fuel, oxygen) remove one! Fire goes out !

It's hard to believe really, that calFire is that incompetent. Almost makes me wonder if they're super villains telling everyone to evacuate while they burn down the gayhoods and billing them overtime for the experience. The judiciary gave them that discretion.
