Damn it.🥹🥹🥹My son is autistic. He turned 5 yesterday and I officially introduced him to Coldplay at bedtime. He is nonverbal but signs and uses an ipad to communicate. After each video he would sign “MORE! MORE!” and we stayed up too late watching videos. His favorite is Paradise live in Paris. He is going to do amazing things in this world, just like this sweet young man on stage. Chris, thank you. We should never have to fight for inclusion. You did so much for the autistic community by doing this🙌🫶

Hearing his confidence build when faced with such a big task and a huge audience, this was much better. Thanks to Coldplay for giving him a chance, I'm American and I'd never heard this before. Our world is filled with so many people who think it isn't OK to be different, and too few who embrace being different. When your body and spirit make you different from the accepted norm, it's hard, but people still are different, they work at overcoming the narrow-minded crowd every day. -- I've become very impressed by Coldplay. I knew I liked their stuff when I first heard it long ago, but now, even more so.

Hace 5 años, mi primo nació. Lo cuidaba desde que nació y desde bebé lo ponía a escuchar Coldplay. Para mi sorpresa, cuando cumplió 4 años él ya sabía buscar Coldplay en el televisor solito. Ponía todas las canciones. Para esa edad, empezamos a notar que tal vez tenía algún espectro de autismo o Asperger. Pero cuando pone su música favorita literalmente cambia su mundo, canta las canciones sin saber inglés. Trata de tocar las canciones en una pequeña batería de juguete, se aprende de memoria los vídeos, lo que hace el piano, lo que dicen en los vídeos. Yo sé y tengo la certeza de que cuando sea un poco más grande, lo llevaré a ver a Coldplay si vuelven a Colombia en un par de años, y me encargaré de que tenga el mejor concierto de la vida. Será la primera vez de ambos para un concierto de Coldplay así que será probablemente el mejor recuerdo de nuestras vidas. Be different it's ok ❤️❤️❤️❤️

I am a 58-year-old autistic woman. What I can tell you, and what you need to communicate to your son that HE IS NOT BROKEN! The world will try to convince him he is broken, but his brain is wired differently. Your son and I are in the league of Einstien, Nicolai Tesla, Sir Isaac Newton, DaVinci, Ann Boylen, and some of the greatest thinkers of all times present and past. We as autistic people learn from the top down and not the bottom up. Public schools and neurotypical schools teach from the bottom up. We don't learn that way! Top-down learning is literally researching and learning about a thing from every possible angle that one can think of. If you tell us that this symbol "1" means a single thing, then you need to give us the entire world history of that symbol and what it means and looks like and sounds like in every single language. When he is struggling with a subject, then find a way to bring it into a special interest he has. Autistics are the real geniuses of the earth, and we given the message that we can do anything we put our minds to and that we are NOT BROKEN even if society wants to tell us we are, and we will invent the next greatest thing. We will write the next greatest song, we will paint the next chapel ceiling that will be held in esteem for the next eternity. We are the researchers, mathematicians, scientists, thinkers, and creators. Neurotypicals may be better doers, but we are the creators of the world. There are ways to make your home sensory safe for your youngest. We are some of the most sensitive people on earth. We not only feel, but we feel everything and we feel it really hard. It is not your son's job to mask to fit it, it is your son's job to find his weirdness, his creativity, and all the weird kids to be friends with. Neurotypicals will always bully kids like us, but in the art classes, in the band, in the drama classes, and wherever you find kids and people who are just a little different, your son will be accepted with open arms. If his passion is comics then take him to comic cons and the likes. 1 in 8 of us is autistic and over 50% are undiagnosed as adults, but that means that there are a ton of kids who your son will and can find friends with. If they say that 1 in 8 of us is autistic and 1/2 are not diagnosed then that means that there are a whole lot more of us than they even think. Your son is lucky, they know what autism is nowadays. Do not teach him to mask and to pretend to be normal, when we are forced to pretend/mask we turn to drugs as we get older. Your son is just fine, it is a society that is broken! He might be the next great Einstien. My teachers tried so hard to convince me I was stupid, but now as an adult after a lot of testing I found out I am Einstein's equal. Oh and let him rattle on about whatever it is that interests him at the moment!
